I have a new 125l/33g tank sitting empty here. Could someone kindly help with suggestions on stocking my tank ?

How many Plecos could i put into a tank this size ? Which ones would be happy in this setup ? My water is mid-soft and PH 7. Ive always wanted to have a tank dedicated to one sort of fish, a pleco tank ? So could this be done with my 33g ? I have stumbled on these fish, after going around in circles for a while trying to find a great looking, unusual looking type of fish.

Ive looked into various Loaches and Catfish but i would really appreciate some help to kick start my tank. :D

Thanks.

I'd go for a small group of the same species of small plec ;)

say 4x 4-5" :)

as for suggestions - have a look through the pinned topic in this section ;)

Thanks Russell, no doubt i will plough through some pages researching Plecos these next few days, but that is a help to get me started.

Okay. So far i like the look of -

Pitbull Pleco / Parotocinclus jumbo
Spectracanthicus sp(l254)
Ancistrus sp(l144)
Ancistrus sp(3)
Hypancistrus sp. (L004)

Are these good for a Pleco newbie ? Ive had look at profiles but would appreciate some honest first hand word on them. So id keep a group of 4 of one of the above.

Cheers.

you'll be hard pressed to find those in stores (except the common bristlenoses :))

there is not much that is difficult about plecs if you stick to the same species - they will all need the same diet - they "should" get along ok ;)

Hypancistrus that are more likely to be seen in stores would include L260's L66's possibly L102
If you can find L183's or the L144's - You cant go wrong with Ancistrus.

Pitbulls are great little plecs too - little being the word - they barely get bigger than 3"

Im quite taken with Ancistrus sp. (L144). I think its the yellow colour. Im a bit concerned about conflict with 4 of them in my 33g, what do you think ? Plus would there be room for anything else in there ? Other fish im taken with -

Kuhli Loaches
Panda Corys
Threadfin Rainbowfish
Keyhole Cichlids

I think it would be a no-no to Kuhlis or Corys, too many bottom-dwellers ? Sorry for all these questions but as always im trying to work things out and start on the right foot as they say.

Thanks again Russell.

as long as there is enough filtration there should be plenty of room for other fish in there - even on the bottom ;)

our zeb tanks are about 33 gals - we have 3 adults in there + fry and about 15 pygmy corys ;)

In the other tank we have 2 adults and fry, 3 pitbull plecs, and 4 pristella tetras...

Just build up the stocking gradually and make sure there is no aggression.

our filtration is somewhat up rated though.

Cheers mate.

Thats spot on about gradually building up the stock in my tank. I have only just setup the tank (put the cabinet together, added the filter, heater and lighting), havent added bogwood, stones, gravel . . . water yet ! So im taking my time with the whole process really. I think its important to get the balance of fish right, too many and it loses its look of naturalness imho.

If your going for plecs and corys, I'd go with sand rather than gravel ;)

Oh i know. but ive already bought myself some really fine rounded black gravel. infact the grain is so small it looks like gritty sand.
