I was suppose to be out of town for one week but something important caused me to have to be out of town for three weeks. I’ve had a friend feed my bettas in my two 20 gallons and one 10 gallon, but I normally do water changes weekly and it’ll have been three weeks before I can get back there. Are they going to be okay? I need some peace of mind. They’re all adequately filtrated and planted.

She said one of the tanks is a ton of detritus worms so I asked her to not feed tomorrow.

You are saying that you have bettas in your tanks. Are these by themselves are is the other fish in with them. It all depends on the load of your livestock in the tanks, and if it is only a single male betta in each tank, then you are ok. A single betta doesn't have much of a bio-load.

But if needed can your friend do water changes?

As.long as the tanks.are.established and the fish ain't been overfed, they will be fine. I have 2 tanks that have not had a water change in over 2 years. They will be ok.

Are they planted? Planted tanks take up nitrates which could help lengthen time between Water change. Floating plants help the most.

Just reduce the feeding to 3 times a week and they should be fine.

Did you measure out how much food they should be feeding?
If not, tell them to only give half as much as they have been, and only feed 2-3 times a week.
