Could someone tell me what's going on with my betta tanks? I have 3 2.5 mini bows, each with 1 betta in them, and the filter running exactly like it's supposed to. The lights are continuously on, and the temp. stays about 80 degrees. I change the water every week and a half to two weeks using declorinated tap water. The problem is 2(one with a male, one with a female) always have algae growing on the fake plants and inside the filter! I'm not doing anything different with them. The one that I've had the longest(one with a male) has never had this problem at all. It seems to have started about the time winter set in. Is there a connection? I'm at my wits end because it seems to get worse and worse every time i change the water, and now those two are starting to get a film on the top also. :dunno: :/ :(

:hi: to the forums, introduce yourself in the newbie section

maybe you should have the lights on 24/7 as fish need to sleep aswell

maybe the light is causing the problem. because i have a tank thats no where near sunlight andwhen i leave the lights on for too long algae begins to grow.

I feel your pain, I have about 50 betta tanks in two different areas (fishroom and 4 in the house) and five tanks have that algae. Three in the fishroom and two inside. Inside, one is in the living room and one in the bathroom. I have no idea why it happens, but your right it just continues to get worse :dunno: Is it a real thick algae that will peel off in sheets? Thats what mine is -_-

Only thing that has worked for me is to compelety tear down and start over, even then one of my algae tanks in the fishroom is completely bare...just water and fish

The algae is long and kinda stringy. I don't understand it at all. I mean, growing in the filter??

I've been keeping the lights on to regulate the water temp. because my house gets really cold at night.
