Ok so i let my partner buy new fish, i told him to buy 2 male platies and no more, so what did he bring home because there was a deal for 4 for £4, 4 platies, so i now have two tuxedo's and 2 sunsets :(

Yes i know the ratio to male to female, the sunets don't seem to bother with the tux female, its just the male tux won't leave her alone, she's been sitting on the bottom most of the day and he is still trying to mate with her, she does try fighting him off but to no avail and i have no where else to put her :( And now she is back to sitting on the bottom again tail fin down head raised hiding behind the sunken shipwreck inbetween chasing the tux male off.

I'm just hoping she'll be alright till tomorrow and we will take her back.

The lfs tested my water as well as myself before adding fish, i did do the fishless cycle, i have a 28 uk gallon tank with a fluval 3 plus and an external eheim classic 2217.

You need to get her out a.s.a.p as I think you realise. My female was harassed by the male to point of major stress. I had somewhere I could put her tho but the stress can kill them. Especially with 3 males in there. And they all will cause trouble when you aren't looking, like at night etc. If she's still alive then take her back tomorrow. Or alternatively take out two males and have them exchanged for two females! Males can become aggressive as they get older. One of my male endlers died because the other two bullied it and I was too late in spotting it. :-(
Hugs,
P.

It's really important to have a good ratio, because three of my female guppies died because I didn't know they were getting harrassed. Next thing you know, they're stuck on the intake of a power filter.

I took my female platy back this morning, i checked her in the middle of the night and she had found a great hidy hole above the filter, she was back with the male by daybreak, but they were constantly biting at each other, she seemed quite healthy otherwise.

The three male platies on their own seem fine and happy, i will keep a close eye on them.

Thankyou for your replies.
