hey guys

I've got 3 male guppies in a 10 gallon tank together and today they seem to be a bit agro and chasing each other and nipping at each other

are they ok doing this???

are they just frisky and want some girls????

Both, they would chase the females too and they also chase each other. I had an uncle that had the most beautiful guppies I had ever seen. That was 27 years ago. We sure don't have guppy quality even close to that anymore. These little buggars are so aggressive. I used to breed guppies on a high scale, being very careful to keep all the color strains seperated. I noticed very quickly even with careful breeding regemin they were not like what my uncle had. I think the livebearers in general and i am sure many other breeds of fish are so in-bred these days that this type of behavior is what is coming out of them.

His guppies used to just swim through the beautiful planted tanks he had and I would just sit there for hours on end watching them and picking out which one I wanted to add to my guppy collection.

How I wish we could get ahold of fish like that today. :)

So you could add some females to the ones you have, I would add more females than males to keep those (guys) occupied.

Good Luck! :p  :alien:

I saw some wild guppies at my lfs the other day. They look nothing like the usual male guppy with the flowing fins. These were quite small, no flowing fins, whitish body with a smattering of coloured dots on them. I would never have believed them to be guppies if I wasn't told.

I would swear my two male guppies are married. They always swim together doing circles around each other. I call them Koto and Podo (sp) after the ferrets in the movie Beastmaster because they are always together being playful and having fun. They don't nip at each other at all. I guess I picked the right ones out.

lol

ok enough with the gay fish jokes :p

so are my guppies ok in there together

maybe they will turn gay with no girls

not that there's anything wrong with that :p

I read that you should have at least two to three female guppies per male guppies. Do you have room in your tank to add more? -_- The only thing about adding female is that you may have to prepare for fry and bunch of them. If you have more than one female you can imagine how many fry you will have to handle!

This way not just one guppy get picked on. I have two guppies, one female(Maggie) and one Male(Andy), Andy is young and he bugs Maggie alot so as soon as I get a bigger tank, I'm going to get more so that he has more playmates to bug. :fun: If you want, just add black skirt tetra (try find some that is about the same age as your guppies) I have one(Buster) and they get along great and I would see them play with each other alot taking turn chasing each other. It's really cute to watch! :D

I'm thinking about adding some females, but I don't know what I'd do with the babies

the tank isn't at my house its at my girlfriends, her and her mum aren't keen on babysitting fry :(:(
