I live in the US and was wondering if anyone knew of a good 3 gallon tank brand for a betta. I saw Eclipse 3 here and it looked perfect, but than I noticed on top a plastic bar is in the middle of the frame and i'm afraid the betta will rub against it and get scratched as it is at water level.

Also, how often would you have to change an unfiltered 3 gallon?

I have no clue on the brand, sorry. Eclipse is the only one I'm aware of.

I don't think the betta will scratch against the plastic bar. But I'm only looking at online pictures, though. If you ARE scared, you could lower the level a bit? If i'm thinking of it correctly?

Well I'm pretty sure you know about cycling, right? In a cycled...I would think...50% once a week? That's how much I do with my 5 gallon. Or break it into 25-30% twice a week. Not sure, though, only a guesstimation.

You can't cycle it if there's no filter in it, but I really would recommend putting a sponge filter in it to make your life easier. Without a filter, probably every 4 days, depending on the fish. You would probably want to get a test kit and test daily for a few weeks to get an idea of how much waste the fish produces, and then you can change according to that pattern. You'll want to change 100% of the water if it's unfiltered, and probably have no substrate, because if you leave a little bit of ammonia in every time it will build up.

One of my bettas is in an Eclipse 3 gallon and that particular model DOES come with a filter. It has a carbon filter and a biowheel included in the set-up. If you get the Eclipse, you need to buy a bit of foam and wrap that around the intake and outake valve to make sure the betta's fins do not get yanked into the intake. For a heater, a hydor 7.5 heats up the tank perfectly. In the summer, the heater will need to be unplugged.

Just to point out: first, my male betta was in the tank and he seemed to have problems turning around so I took him out and put a female in there instead and she has a MUCH easier time getting around. She basically glides around the tank.
