As mentioned before my female betta bailed out of her bowl and died, being the 1st fish that's died on me in 6 months, yesterday my daughters favorite guppy died in the 29 gallon, not a mark on her and no sign of illness, just laying on the gravel when we woke up and then this morning....my gold nugget plec was dead , also lying peacefully on the gravel
ok so here's what I don't understand, I had recently removed the betta who lived in there and added the 2 dwarf blue gouramis from my 42 to the 29, no change in the ammonia or nitrites, left them for a week or so and then added 10 khuli loaches, which brought it to 3 clown loaches, the gold nugget, the 2 gouramis and the 4 guppies plus the khulis, overstocked slightly but excellent filtration with a penguin 170 and a submersible for a 10 gallon max ( it worked for a current for the plec) , I did go through ( ok THEY went through) a small spike in the nitrites which were only as high as .25 and were at zero today
so what gives? was it just coincidence that I lost the two fish( death happens in 3's etc etc...)? or was it that very small spike? did the khulis bring some disease or something with them...but no signs of illness on either dead fish. My plec became rather depressed after I moved the betta out, they had a strange relationship and maybe he was more dependant on the betta than I realized, he stopped eating after that. I'm just stumped by all of it
