Okay so I had 10 female bettas yesterday. Lastnight I woke up in the middle of the night and for some reason I turned my tank light on for the 120 gallon. I saw one of my cambodian females dead on the bottom of the tank. It looked like she was attacked at the throat and sides. Although, she could have just died and been munched on since the tank lights were out and my bumblebee catfish might have gotten hungry.

A few hours ago I looked in my tank again and ANOTHER cambodian female was dead. I just checked on my 120 gallon again and another cambodian female was dead. Both of these two females had no signs of illness or injury. I can't figure out what is causing this. All of my other fish look completely fine and healthy. Everyone is eating and swimming around perfectly. I just cleaned the sand last week and gave them new dechlorinated water.

The temp is at around 78-79F I don't know what is wrong but I can't stand to lose another one of my girls...Please help me. :-(

What are your water parameters?
Oh forgot to post that. Am-0 Ni-0 and Na-10

I don't think that would be a problem. I keep their water really clean. :dunno: I just checked on another one of my cambodians and it look like her stomach has been injured. I also saw her being chased around by 3 of the darker females. She hid in a small cave to get away from them and now she is laying on the sand. I don't know what to do.

Could there be a possibility of the darker females attacking the lighter females?

Yeah, that's possible. Unusual, but completely possible.

You may want to watch the tank for a good long while, and remove anybody you see a) getting picked on, or B) picking on other girls.

The only thing I can think of is that they're being physically attacked.

That's all I can come up with as well... this is really unusual -_-

you sure NONE of the fish looked ill? Sometimes if one fish is ill, it'll wipe out the entire tank. Check each and every fish. Also, if you have live plants, check them as well.

I have no live plants in my 120 gallon and I have checked over every fish in my 120 gallon. I isolated the injured one in a 1 gallon tank for now and I am treating her with salt. Should I be doing this or what should I do? I have been monitoring the tank and nothing seems unusual just the occasional flaring between the female bettas is all.

Sounds like you're doing what you can. Isolating her was a good move, and treating her with salt is good, too. She needs this time alone to heal.

I have been noticing the darker colored females are picking on the lighter cambodian marked females. All they do is flare though then one just gives up and swims away. I am so stressed. :[

Totally attacking by the darker females. You need to put live plants in the tank to avoiding the black biting the cambodian. they will escape and hiding if they been attacking. The more the better since you got a huge tank. :) The plants also creating the blocking viewing too. You can get if from aquabid in a big bundle of 7 types like 300 plants total for 15.00 and only cost 10.00 shipping.

I have a lot of hiding places in the tank along with a lot of fake plants. Do I need live plants?

And I am sure that they are females.

The lighter females all have clamped fins and don't look too good. Also, they look a little curved...Like a hump sort of? All of my female bettas.

aww im so sorry *hugs* good luck with the other females though... 10 in a 120G i would think that that would be alright :/ so confusing -_-
