my fish tank has been up and running for a couple of months now all going well
except for some disease my guppies had but been sorted now ;) .

been doing test frequently and everything is at nought (ammonia and nitrite) and the ph and nitrate are at low levels or where they are supposed to be.

now heres the question we have 6 neon tetras, 2 white mollies and 2 dalmation mollies and 2 gouramis ( although above it said i have guppies they were returned to the lps where i bought them ) does anyone know if i can put in a couple of angel fish in beside the ones i have ( i read somewhere that you cannot have angel fish with neon tetras because the angel fish will eat them is this true.)

I have read that Tetra's are the natural prey of Angel-fish in the wild. But, i have also read that some people haven't had any problems keeping them both together. I suppose it is all dependent on the personalities of the fish.
Also, as corrosive said Angel-fish do require taller tanks of atleast 18" to be able to accomodate them at their adult size.

thank you for replying to my question, we have a tank big enough for the amount of fish we want its just that when we went to the pet shop to buy the gourami's, the assistant never mentioned if the angel fish were compatible. we have had the neon tetras since we had our tank fully cycled and i wouldn't like to lose them now

does anyone else know what would go with the fish we have, we are only looking for fish that really would suit a beginner or that are compatible with the ones i have. :/

4 neon tetras
4 mollies (2 white,2 dalmation)
2 gouramis

thank you :)

We really need to know the size of the tank before suggesting whether or not angels are a good addition. It is true that tetras are the natural food for angels, but as was said there are many fish keepers that have kept them together successfully. You may find if you add angels your neons will be fine. Or, you may find them vanishing one by one. If your tank is at least 30 gallons, I'd say an angel would be okay. Maybe two. If your tank is smaller, I'd skip angels.

I have an angel in my community tank that includes 10 cardinal tetras. They all get along just fine!! I made sure that the angel was quite small when i bought her (really have no idea if it's a 'her' .. i just like to think its a female :p ) so she couldn't eat the neons even if she wanted. Now she just views them as tank mates and leaves them alone

Good luck with the tank!!

Angels can also get quite aggresive, and i think thwey need to be kept in a group of three, I think but not sure.

law of the piscitoria kingdom es that if it can fit down the neck of another ......it will .....they do grow large and are oten agresive especialy if they lay eggs .if you put small angles in with small fish and they grow up with them then they may never look at them as food .but to throw a couple of larger ones in id say a good chance of the chomp .. theres allways plenty of angel owners out there that have never had cranky ones .

:p the gourami's are red robin and dont get any bigger than the dwarf gourami,s so any advice to what fish i could get would be much appreciated. :D.

thank you

Angels do not need to be kept in groups. And if you choose to keep a group of them you need to watch very carefully. When angels pair off (for mating) they become quite agressive. If you did have three angels, when two paired off, they would very likely harrass and possible kill the third angel, as it has become a threat.
