I got a 2nd hand tank off ebay yesterday but when I cleaned it out, I noticed that there's a crack on the bottom that has been covered in sealant. I'm a little concerned about filling it now. How strong is it likely to be? It's roughly 15 gals and the crack is about an inch long. I've got some sealant here, would it be worth going over it again? The tank only cost £1.04 so it's not a massive concern if it's irreparable

hmmm risky business IMO - is it on a floating base or is it a solid glass tank? If its a full glass tank you could try double basing it with a second panel of them or add a small panel of glass on the inside over the crack. If its a floating base (like Fluvals etc) you could try the panel inside.

Silicone over Silicone is not a good idea and wont adhere well.
If its on the base you can strip off all the old silicone patch and apply a small piece of glass heavily gunged with silicone press down and wiggle it to get a good seating over the crack and clean off excess silicone from round the edges.

Brilliant. I'll do that then :) they said it was fully functional but the crack is far worse than I thought and frankly I don't trust it. Might be better off just replacing the bottom. I have some spare glass to do it but how would I cut it?

I'm a glasscutter by trade lol
what size is the tank metric and what thickness is the glass
If your not competent enough get in contact with a local Glazier or double glazing company..they will cut if for you to your dims for a few pounds
