2Nd Hand External Filter From Marine To Tropical

Hi iv just bought a 2nd hand tetratec 1200 for my tropical tank, previous owner had it for marine. He says he's cleaned it, but just wondered what best way to clean it myself to make sure itl be safe to run. Would mild bleach solution be best or white vinegar? Any help appreciated. Thanks

I've always used vinegar and water.
