29 Gal, getting started want to keep discus

hey wassup? can any1 help me out with my selections? im gettin a 29 gal tank with all the top notch accessories etc, i have a discus book n have done sum homework already over the last few months, i wanna know from a keeps perspective the real improtant info. i noticed the book didnt tell me what fish r compatible with discus n i th ink thats important b4 i start anything. i read up on the cycle n all that stuff already. any1 that can help me out hit me.
 
I'd say your tank is too small for discus, to be honest. They get very big and are pretty messy.

It's good to have a shaol with them as it makes them feel safe. They need to be kept at high tempatures and so their tankmates need to be ok with warmer water. The fish need to be gentle, non-aggressive fish.
 
A 29 gallon tank would be good for a breeding pair.
I would recommed that you go with a bare bottom tank and no other fish in the tank.
 
A breeding pair?! That's hopeful, breeding pairs here go for £200+ and that was the same guy who sold me mine for £6 each that sold one of his pairs for that.

I don't think it would make for a very interesting environment for the fish but it's up to you...
