I am looking to stock my tank with tiger barbs. maybe a couple of small botton dwellers. its going to be a planted tank. ( no other fish)

I was wondering how many i could have in tank. was told by my LPS i can put about 25 in there hmmmmm i thought that sounded a lot?

Thanks

Zoe

Yeah, 25 seems like a little much, despite them being pretty small fish they are very active and need space to swim. Even if you went by the one inch per gallon rule it would be well over. I have 7 in a 20 gallon. Id say you could probably do 12-15. That would allow them room to swim, and let you get at least two different color morphs, three even, while allowing them to feel secure with there own kind with 4-6 of there own color.

Love your choice on Tiger barbs, there one of my fav. type of fish despite many not liking that there fin nippers. Id say a good fish that would look good on the bottom would be maybe a small group of corys or some ottos (for the algae and the fact that there so darn cute).

Good luck :good:

Sorry, I sould have explained better. I ment different colors. Like Albino, Green and regular. When i first read morphs I didnt know what it was either lol.

Good luck, let me know how it goes, I love seeing other tigerbarb tanks :good:

Good reply, i would agree with the 12-15, if thats all you keeping Scots Lass, plus some bottom feeders (how rude :hyper: ), at the end of the day your tank is 115-120 litres, dont let anyone tell you, that you can only have 5-6 in there!!!

EDIT: 25 gallon = 114 Litres, in UK

Lol thanks i actually measured it as 116L as thats how much water i put in lol.

Yea def gonna go for tigers in a luch green planted tank. Cycling at the moment. just waiting to get a reply reg ammonia as only put it in on weds night and got nitrite already :hyper:

So excited about this tank :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

So say if i go for 13 (unlucky for some) tigers and say 2 khuli loachs. would there be anyroom left to add anything else?

I am not sure what would be able to go in with tiger barbs are read the are little buggers lol

Zoe

P.S want the tigery look in tank (fish) Khulis have that tigers skin (ish)

If you have 13 Tiger Barbs, they shouldn't cause any problems. They can be terrible fin nippers when kept alone or in small groups (say less than 4). 13 should be great. Did you get the idea from the LFS? I think their tank is fab. :good:

Yes i did Mr Brainy Box.

But mine will look way better   . It was him that said i could put 25-26 tigers in there.

so anyone recommend compatible fish with tiger barbs. and if i went for 13 tigers how many other types fish could i put in also

Zoe

Get a Wide Bar Datnoid, really maximise your tiger tank, ahaha. :hyper:

Joking lol

what about a L002 plec, or an L074 plec? Maybe a L134 plec? Haha. Some kind of leopard plec would be nice :good:

Alright I'm going to go against what everyone else says and say that 13 is too many. I'd say 10. These fish have the potential to get up to three inches. Unless the dimensions of the 25g are very long and wide, I don't think the fish will really be happy. They ARE schooling fish, but that's only when they're frightened. Otherwise they need their own territories. :)

About the kuhlie loaches, they are one of my favorite fish, and you could definitely have them with tiger barbs. I would get about 6. :)

I would have to agree with n3ont3tra, I myself have 8 Tiger Barbs in a 55 Gallon Tank. I had them since they were less than an inch, and now their approaching 2 inches. They are one of the most active fishes I have maintained, they would really appreciate the room to roam around (and let me tell you they will :shout: ).

Keeping 10 might just be pushing it in my opinion  . I say 6-7 might be a good number  . But to the guy who said 25, someone should slap him  .

Yes i agree he needs a good kick up the ass IMO, :hyper:

Ok so say i went for 6 tigerbarbs what else can i put in with them. def gonna have khuli loachs. was thinking about red cherry shrimp also? if the red cherrys are compatible how many of them could i put in?

Zoe

The barbs might try to eat cherry shrimp, it depends on how big the shrimp and fish are. I wouldn't try it. What are the dimensions of the tank?
