What kind of fish do well in hexagon type tanks? Obviously there is a lot more top to bottom swimming area than side to side. Are there fish that you definitely steer away from?

well, id steer away from any kind of surface dweller that requires a lot of space. but thats just me, im sure theyd get along just fine if you really wanted them. you could get a few corydoras for sure, i wouldnt recomend a pleco or algae eater of any kind.....they get really big. snails are just as fun! ghost shrimp are great too, but you have to be sure that the fish cant eat them, i made that mistake once and lost about a half a dozen little guys, but my killy was happy with my mistake. ^_^ they arent expensive though so no big deal. i agree with pandacichlid, guppies are wonderful, ive got a five gallon hex with lots of plants and a few rocks jutting up, there are three guppies in there and they are doing great. plenty of stuff for them to explore.

:good: i have platys mollies and 2 red fin sharks in a hexagonal tank 10 gallon, yes i know its a bit on the small side but i am in the process of getting a larger tank, mollies had 10 babies all are doin well in the main tank only used the breeder for a week as they grew so quickly, i feed them block brine shrimp, dried daphnia, powdered tetramin for babies and some veg like courgettes ect the babies love lettuce and it floats too so they got a place to hide.
got 1 lyretail dalmation molly and 2 dalmation females, the male looks like a sailfin but apparently isnt but he is dalmation too and gorgeous... the other male doesnt get a look in

A pair of dwarf cichlids might be fine in there, and Dwarf/Honey/Sparkling Gouramis should be okay too.

A few notes about Gouramis:
1) Do not put multiple males in a tank...even if they are different species
2) The best ratio for Gouramis is usually 1 male and 2 females (if you can find females for sale)
3) Be cautious about Dwarf Gouramis... due to popularity they are sometimes far too inbred, harboring parasites, and/or other illnesses possibly from overstocked breeding populations.

Betta
I have a betta in a small tank that's Hexagon shaped as long as u only have the one it's ok my betta lives with a sward tail not all betta can live with other fish so if u get one and some other fish keep a good Eye on them for about a week

just a reminder DONT PUT MORE THEN ONE MALE BETTA IN A TANK and if u want to put a female in with a male u need a large tank with lost and lots of hiding space
