Basically im worrying about this size tank upstairs, so where would be better to place the aquarium?
A - against the wall to next door against a chimney breast with floorboards running the same way
B - against the wall to another room with floorboards running opposite way

or am i just worrying too much? is this size tank fine upstairs either way

i think it will fall through the floor TBH Put it downstairs and move some smaller tanks (if any) upstaairs

I have my Rio240 in the back room of our first floor flat, running across three joists and against the wall that seperates our flat from the first floor flat next door.

It is the load bearing joists that are important here, at our place in was easy to determine their direction, as the floor boards have lines of nails that are securing the boards to the joists.

live at home with mum so pointless not avin it in my room.
Any other opinions people?

yeh iv checked floorboards and the joists will obviously run the opposite way to them

i asked the same question to a guy that was a builder doing work at my house, he said it was fine and i have 2 fish tanks in my bedroom for nearly 3 years now and the floor is still standing!! haha

his logic was quite simple, you and maybe another person in a bed to gether is probably the same weight as a large fish tank! and you dont fall through the floor im guessing? lol

but that is spread out over 4 points

haha i havnt fallen through floor yet so thats all gd lol.
so it would be better running across joists against the chimney breast

the more joists you are on the better, you could nail the joists into the chimney breast as well

wouldnt have a clue what i would be doing. the joists will always be running the opposite way to the floorboards won't they?

yes, they are in out house, but the plinth i havfe mine on runs all the way down to the foundatoins

A fish tank is permanent, people sleeping in a bed isn't, the only person that can tell you is a structural engineer.

this is horrible lol no way im going to know if its safe or not :(

anyone put a big tank upstairs woithout checking anything n had no problems? or have had problems

Plan on putting a 55g upstairs in few month next to a bunch of heavy studio equipment, i'll let you know if it goes through the floor lolol.
