Ok...how about this?

A mix of small shoaling tetras (neons, glowlights, rummy nose, etc), some catfish for the bottom (cory's, b'nose, small plec) and maybe a pair of honey gourami for the top of the tank?

Just a quick, simple idea

Very good idea!
I am thinking about:

6-8 pristilla tetras
8 (various kinds) of danios (longfinned)
and then....
1-2 blue rams!!!!!

would i be able to add any more?
