We have a 20 gal tall tank with several plants 2 goldfish one is about 3 inches the other is about 2.5 we where going to get tropical fish but my family got attached to them so we never got rid of them. Now that their getting bigger were going to have to get rid of them some way but anyway to the point how much bigger should they get before we rehome them?

I'd say 5-8 inches given the size of the tank but since they are VERY messy fish you may want to rehome them before they reach that size just because of the number of water changes you have to do. I love gold fish but they are a problem to rehome and grow so large.

You don't give the type of goldfish, but I would re-home them now, ASAP. Even a 3-inch goldfish in a 20g is pushing it.

Im going to work on getting them to more suitable conditions but they have never had any signs of sickness or ammonia poisoning so I believe that they could stay in there a little bit longer. Also they are just feeder goldfish that you could buy at Petco. Any suggestions on how to rehome them or any better ideas?

I actually had my comets in a 29G until they were about 4-5” long. Then I built a patio pond and they are now close to a foot long but still living happily ever after. Place an add at your lfs if they’ll let you.
