Ok, I got two new females (cream attacked all the other females, so I had to put her in her own 2.5 gallon permanently). One combtail plakat (I think, has kinda spikey fins, and is double rayed) and a spadetail! I couldn't resist! So I bought them! Surprisingly, at Petco! They had healthy females! All newly cleaned water two! $2.49 each, spadetail, yes! Here's pictures!

Luna (Combtail Plakat)
Ember (Spadetail)

Hey, how do you tell the difference between a vtspade and a pkspade?

Oppositearmor, are you absolutely sure they're female? That really big gill flap on Luna is a bit suspicious to me and Ember looks really good. Almost too good. I've seen some lovely females in my day, but yours are a bit too "male" looking. It's just their anal fins look a bit pointed and ventrals look long to me, and they the gill flaps and long finnage are suspect. But, if not, you've got some gorgeous females. Did you check for a ovipositor, but males sometimes have a fake one? Separate them and see if they build nice bubble nests and flare by extending the gill flap.

Yes I am absolutely 100% sure they're female! They both have the ovipositor (I finally remembered how to spell it) and Luna's gil flap doesn't extend beyond the gill. Look, if you don't belive me, I'll try to get pictures of their ovipositors. None of them nip each other either. They just swim, do the occasional flare, and swim some more.

I believe you, I've just never seen such lovely ladies, no need to flare! They just look male to me. You've got some lovely manly girls. Best way to tell, of course, is to breed them, or put them near a male. If they do the whole vertical bar thing, well then, definitely female. Your boys will know better than you or I ever will!

Another way to tell. But won't it be hard to tell on cambodians? Ember is a cambo red, and I thoght those verticle bars were hard to tell on cambos. Oh well, I'll try.
