I have a small 2 gallon tank. I am tired of the algea! I don't know what else to do. It does not have a filter or heater. It am pretty sure it is too small for another fish (I was thinking of small otocinclus catfish). All it holds is a betta. I've tried a snail, but the betta did not like it. Would a small filter take care of the problem? Now with summer I can keep the light off, which will help keep down on the algea, but during the winter, the light is all that that keeps the tank warm. Any other suggestions? Anything would help!!!

Thanks!

i don't see how a filter would help

maybe try getting some shrimp, although it will be hard to catch them everytime you do a waterchange... maybe a small sponge filter would be good then

24 to 36 hrs of total darkness should stop the photosynthasis process, thus killing the algea.
the tank must be completly shut of from the light, so is it possibly to house the betta in another container, a bucket or similar. don't forget bettas can jump, so whatever you put it in needs to have a cover over it
