I just got a 2 foot tank...planning to divide it in half... will a simple sponge filter be enough filtration for the bettas

A sponge filter will be fine. Are you putting one (filter) on each side?

if i get the plastic canvas as the divider would i still need 2 sponge filters? i dont mind... just want to know whats best.

Yeah, sponge filters aren't too productive, but they're good don't get me wrong. But they won't be able to filter thru the dviders holes. You won't exactly need 2, but it might work better.

ehhhh, that depends on how high you keep its flow and how sturdy your males' nests are. I was going to mention to you that the filters may turn out to be a waste of money if your bettas hate them

They better like em! i've invested so much money in the past couple months on my little guys. Just want the best for them. But they're in a 5 gallon divided tank now and i got the penn-plax corner filter in there. They dont seem to mind that, but it doesnt look possible for them to build a bubblenest with that kinda filter.
I just like to see thoses nests, its entertaining to watch! :D
