i have a 260l tank which is a bit over stocked so i am getting another fluval 305 my question is can i put the filters in series so the water will come from the tank into filter one then to filter two then back to the tank will this work thanks in advance

NO the 1st filter will stave the 2nd filter of the good bacteria it needs and the 1st filter will pump the water to fast to the 2nd filter putting stress on the 2nd filter

some will say it can be done but i wouldn't recommend it
 
thanks for the fast reply i didnt think about the bacteria only the stress on the second motor better to have more water movement anyway thanks again
 
Another reason to run the filters separately is that more filter space is not really needed with a canister, they have plenty. Instead it is nice to have a functional backup if one of the filters has any trouble. A few weeks, hard to define, after the second filter is placed on the tank, it will be fully cycled and ready to take on the whole tank in a pinch.
