Hi,
Just like the title says - Has anyone on here kept 2 female bettas together in a community tank with success? The tank has guppies, mollies, platies and a pleco. 1 female is already in there and is getting along great with everyone...
Thanks :)

i have not tried it, but i would think that the same aggerrion would take place if they were alone in the tank or if they were in a community like yours.

but like i said, i've never tried it :dunno:

Well in my tank now i have 3 females with 1 male and they all do fine and mind their own business! I think it just depends on their personality really.

Wow - I can't believe you haven't had any major battles in the tank between the angel and the bettas. Generally male and female bettas will kill each other together, and the angel vs. betta is most times pretty ugly.

Anyway - as far as the 2 females together - you might be asking for trouble with it, but I guess you'd have to give it a try and see. Do be prepared to take one of them out, though, if troubles come.

I have 2 females in my 10 gallon, and the were originally in a 5.5 gallon. NEVER EVER had ANY nips, no aggression at all. Its so cute when they swim side by side! Its like they don't even notice its another female betta...I guess I just got lucky :D

It entirely depends on the female Bettas in question.

I have a pair that I keep together, just the two of them. There used to be three, but their companion died, and they have gotten along flawlessly since they figured out who was bigger and meaner. Before that, there were pieces of fin all over the place. It works now, though. I can't add more females to that pairing, though, because they're about twice as big as any other female I have, so the other females wouldn't stand a bit of a chance.

I don't really recommend trying it, especially with the Guppies and Mollies---both are incredibly poor tankmates for Bettas. But, if you do, then be on hand for a good long while in case you need to separate them, or they could get seriously hurt.

Also, it is important how old the fish are. Older females, especially if they have not had to share their territory with other bettas, are less likely to get along with newcomers.

Im not sure how old she is. I got her about a week and a half ago... Is there a way to tell her age?

Here is a picture of her. Her name is Emily.

A rough estimate can be obtained by size, but the size they reach has other causes than age, such as water quality and food quality.

If you've just recently gotten her, then she's likely fairly young. Under 7 months, most likely.
