Hi All,

I've had 2 of my Honey Dwarf Gouramis die in 2 days!!!! :-( I don't know whats going on!!!!

They looked healthy when I put them to bed, then I woke up and found them dead.

All the other fish in the tank are healthy, except 1 silver shark with fin rot. I'm currently cycling the tank through a fin rot treatment with a multi cure. I always underdose, so I assume I didn't poison them.

I've even got some Guppy fry, so the tank water should be in pretty good condition.

My fish are very active, even the 3 Honey Gouramis I have left over.

I've run all the water tests... Ph is good, Nitrite is good, Ammonia is good, General Hardness is a little high and Carbonate Hardness is a little low.

Any ideas on what's going on? Anyone?

Eleonora.

Are all of the Honey Gouramis male? How big is your tank? This may not explain the whole dying thing, but several male Gouramis in a tank might cause a problem with aggressiveness.

It's a 4ft tank. I don't know if the Gourami's are male. I asked for a mixture of female and male when I bought them 3 months ago.

I haven't noticed any aggressive behaviour between the fish, but the way I found the dead one's, its quite possible that they had been hiding. I found the first dead fish under a log and the second in my rock cave.

Im having problems with my honey dwarf gourami i just purchased too. my ammonia, nitrate, ph, nitrite levels are ok, but it is just hiding behind a plant all day. im kind of worried and dont know what to do.

Hi Eleonora :)

If you are treating your silver shark for fin rot, that means that at least one of your fish has a bacterial disease. I would think it likely that the fish that died were either infected also, or were harmed by whatever event or condition weakened your shark and made him vulnerable to that infection.

BTW, why are you treating your fish with less than the recommended dosage of medicine? Please use it the way it directs you to for maximum effectiveness.

If you keep the temperature of your tank at 75 degrees or lower and increase aeration, it will inhibit the bad bacteria from multiplying and help your fish recover more quickly.
