hello

after a lot of thinking, i have decided not to go for the zebra.... too special and i dont feel brave enough to care for such a wonderful fish.

so... i took a trip out, book in hand and an idea of the best fish for my new tank.

my short list was either a bulldog or a bristlenose. spent an hour looking at the many tanks and couldnt find either! so went to ask for assistance from the chap in the shop.

explained i wanted a dwarf pleco, pretty and idealy either a bristlenose or a dwarf but was sad to see they didnt have any.... he went on to show me a tank full of cichlids with a handful of tiny bristlenoses!

they are so pretty, i got 3! theyare about an inch long and have wonderful markings... i hope out of the 3 i will have a pair to breed with.

they have all settled in well after a 2 hr acclimatisation process ( took a while as i wanted them to have the best chance in the new tank) They are feeding well on the algae (been saving cleaning the glass for them) and seem to like surfing on the current in the tank!

am a very happy baby bristlenose owner!

Awww they sound lovely

I can't say I blame you on not getting the zebra

My lfs were getting albino bristlenoses in for me and they should be there today but will be collecting on Saturday.

I hope you do get a pair and can't wait to see pics!

Good luck with the Bristlenoses.

I got a pair for my new tank and they were about an inch long. That was 6 months ago. Now one is nearly 4 inches and very fat, and the other is 3 inches.

I discovered that I had been lucky and got a male (very bristley and huge!) and female (small and very pretty) pair who are now breeding away, laying about 35 eggs every 5 weeks! ( Small clumps of bright orange eggs either just on the floor of the tank or being kept in a cave/hollow guarded by the male!)

The first clutch of fry are now just short of that infamous inch long (at 7 weeks old) and are about to go to good homes with friends. The second lot hatched last week and are nearly a cm long alread!

The babies are so much fun to look after and watch them grow day by day! Hope you have as much as I have with mine!

Cheers
