I think the water temp is too hot for it.

In response to your thread title i was going to say "plants start to melt" so in my opinion, try turning the temp down and see if it improves.

I would guess, too, that it's the warmer temperature. But if you're like me, you can't turn the temp down because it's so damn hot outside these days!! The whole US has been in a massive heat wave.

My tank heater in the 72G has been unplugged for the past three weeks and the tank is still running at 80F.

Same problem ..... some plants dont look so good , tanks at 30C because its 30+ outside!!!

Yeh have to agree, its the heat. Think its affecting my tank at the moment with all the hot weather we're having. The crypts and for some reason the hornwort just cant cope with it. The hornwort in my nano has disintegrated! And thats saying something its normally impossible to kill!

Doesn't seem to be affecting either of my sag species thou, which is interesting.

take a whole head of lettuce and throw it into a pot of boiling water... all of the leaves would seperate.

Same would happen in your aquarium.

(consumption of the lettuce is not reccomended as the lettuce was not washed prior to cooking)

If you can manage it, try doing smaller, more frequent water changes to bring the temperature down. Fans also help. That's what I did in IL to combat the heat. My apartment would get up to 90 degrees F at times and the tank would soar to 86 degrees. AC busted once during the summer. Outside, it was 115 degrees. That was aweful. I ended up blowing two fans right at it and doing 25% every few days rather than the 50% each week for EI. Bettas loved it, however, it was just like home! Still have my crypts! So, with a little TLC, your sword may pull through.

It seems to be my Swords that are really suffering they look as though they are just going to fall apart

Plants really are not effected till you hit 40C plus.
My tanks sit at about 90-94F, fish tend to drop before plants will.

A few plants like Lace plants seem to have issues with hot water.
I've not noticed any issues otherwise.

California has some spots in the Mojave and Death Valley(125F typically in July/Aug, sometimes even hotter) and the Sororan deserts that are the hottest in the world, there are springs oasis and they have aquatic plants there also. I'm sure some spots in Oz hit 45C or so and have springs/plants as well as the Okvango in Africa's Kalahari.

I found this with my swords, nicely shaped leaves when new but they end up long and leggy after a few months as the new leaves grow.
