150 Watt Metal Halide

Hi I have a 75 gallon setup and want to start growing lots of live plant. I have a 150 watt metal halide plant grow light made by Sun Systems that I used to grow plants in Northern Michigan. Can I use this light on my aquarium?? Just trying to cut cost of buying a new ballast for the tank. Thanks

A 150W lamp over a 75 gallon tank should give you plenty of light for any low light or medium light plant. Please look at the needs of your planting. I have planted tanks running at just over 1 WPG and they are doing fine. If you have similar plants, you could save yourself considerable cash in the long run by replacing that huge lighting load with a lower one. Sooner or later, the price of a new fixture is more than offset by lower power costs. Without the details of your planting, it is impossible to say if that is your own situation.
