As some may of seen my very first SW tank is coming togther quite nicely now.

I'ved worked out my toal volume with sump at 125litres or 33 US gals. The actual display tank is 23gals.

So as I draw closer I'd like to start researching my fish and corals etc.

My lighting is 110W it currently has a 12000k white tube in and a Interpet Tri-Plus tube (redy, pink!).

Soooo, all ideas welcome, I think before the general idea was a percula clown, fire fish goby and probable a jaw fish.

would like another type of fish thats quite active like the clowns..

I'm wondering what else I can put in and what sort of interesting inverts I could have?

Also how much LR should I be planning to buy I'ved mainly been looking at the 20kg offers.

Hi Paul

I would say to go for between 15 - 20kg of Live Rock depending on your Aquascaping

As for the Inverts, the size of your tank should only exclude things like Starfish, Large Clams, Urchins (Rock Topplers)

The Inverts you can add are,

Snails: (Turbos, Ceriths, Nassarius, Bumblee Bee, etc.)
Crabs: (Blue, or Red Leg Hermits, Sallylightfoot, Decorator (not Reef Safe))
Shrimps: Cleaners, Fire, Banded, Peppermint, Sexy)

For corals, a lot would depend on whether you want to keep SPS. LPS or Softies & Muchies

Good Starter Corals are Softies including, Muchrooms, Leathers, Polyps

Have a look at Live Aquaria for Coral Pics

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=600

I would say you would be able to get a Dwarf Angel in a 23g (UK) tank maybe a Potters Angel, Coral Beauty, Flame etc.
I would stay away from the Lemonpeel as the are real bad with softies

I also like Royal Gramma's, Firefish, Jawfish (need a DSB), Bangii Cardinal Fish, Flame Hawkfish

Hopefully this gives you some ideas

:D :D :D

Aqua scaping wise, I think I'm going to try and buil dit up round the side and back leaving a 'bay' in the centre front of the tank rather than the usual pile in the middle! I'm guessing to do that I'm going to be needing more, although over 20kg and you tend to get discount :D

clams and urchins have very interesting vivid colours on some of them so would love them.

I think I'll have to sally light foot crab jus for the name, then any of the brighter coloured shrimps.

I don't really have clue on corals, i could be searching throught that list all day only to find they aren't suitable for me!! to put it quite simple, i want bright and stunning. vivid colours is basically the main reason for moving onto marine.

23 US gallons 20 Uk gallons.

would love a flame angel in there colours are awesome!!

Live aquaria say 5-7" substrate for a jaw fish...if thats right i won't bother is them, thats half the volume

all the others being a welcome adition!

Yeah I would stay away from the Jaw as well

If it is color you want have a look for Ricordea Mushroom, these are real nice, unfortunatly in the UK they are also really expensive, around 33.00 per muchie,

I have 1 or 2 in my tank and they are real nice (I got then from a friend), other corals like Green or Orange Spotted Muchies, Carnation Tree Coral, Xenia, Button, snake, Clove polyps are all suitable for your tank.

To be honest as long as it is either a softies or a muchie, you cant really go to far wrong

Brigthly coloured shrimp - I would get some Cleaners, real Nice & good fun, mine like to scurry along the underside of the surface chasing my finger.

Be Careful with your choice of Flame, I think I have been real Lucky as mine has a very mild atitude and seems to like the size of tank (she is only 2")
