Hi guys i have a few questions...

I am going to get 15kg(a little over, but i hear thats better) of live rock for my 125litre, i already have a puffer in the tank so,

does it need to be cycled? like put it in a bucket and just blast it with powerheads- are water changes neccesary?

also, if i have live rock rubble in the external filter, does this need to be gotten out and washed every so often?

i plan to keep a some softies under the 2xt8 20w lights-may add a led aquabeam 500-another 12w, is it basically all of the softies i can keep, or which ones inparticular?

I wont be using RO water, so, will rowaphos be useful? how long does a 1lt tub last on a tank this size? and how often do i have to change it?

Yes, keep it in a container with a heater and flow - test until you are sure the rock is cycled. Luckily you dont need it yet, so you have time to do this :good:

I would take it out occassionaly and clean out the bottom of the filter (all the crud  ) you can put it in a filter bag for ease of removal

Most of the softies, it would be easier to say which you cant keep :good:

I try to change mine every month, but this sometimes runs into six weeks  and yes your tank will benefit from using it with that mucky, lovely puffer in the tank

Thanks seffie, i know its a fairly long way away, but, id rather think about it now, i'll try and get a book on soft corals once i have a little money, these are the things i need to buy:

23kg h2ocean-getting this next week :)

protein skimmer-april

then, salifert test kits, rowaphos, maybe some activated carbon, live rock, live rock rubble, macro algae, oo, perhaps a refractometer, maybe the aditional lighting, and then fish and corals :hyper:

one thing i meant to ask, as i will have the filter fully matured, at which point do i take the biological media in it away? as soon as i add the live rock, a couple days after? obviously i will be able to monitor water perams to check its all good too..

thanks for your help!

I wouldnt take it away staright away, maybe 1/3rd at a time. Usually you stock a freshly cycled tank slowly when using live rock so teh bacteria in it has time to build up to match the bio-load of the tank.

You will already have a big puffer in there at this point, i wouldnt want to shock the system too much if you get what i mean. Then again this could be me being over cautious
