Thanks for all the complements, good to see my hard work appreciated
The plants are surprisingly easy to maintain (no, they're not plastic!). I think the key is creating the ideal environment. I have done this by having good lighting, nutrient-rich substrate, good filtration and co2 addition.
My lighting is provided by 1 x 24" Arcadia Freshwater Lamp and 1 x 24" Interpet Daylight Plus, both with reflectors. These are full-spectrum lamps which are ideal for plant growth and bring colours out well, unfortunately my camera doesn't portray this too well.
My substrate is fine gravel with a mix of laterite in the lower third and an under-gravel heater cable. This provides warmth for the roots and prevents the gravel from going anaerobic, in fact the convection currents produced turn the gravel into a giant biological filter.
My standard Juwel filter has carbon removed so I can use liquid fertiliser and the filter output nozzle is directed for minimal surface disruption to prevent co2 dicapating. I also have a Fluval 204 external with extra bio-filter media and RowaPhos to remove phosphates which encourage algae. The output nozzle is positioned well below the surface to prevent co2 loss.
CO2 is provided by two Nutrafin co2 systems. These are cheap but I've found very effective.
My main maintenance with the plants is pruning. My 8 Otos look after any algae build-up. I haven't actually cleaned off any algae, even off the glass for weeks now.
