As some of you may know i took a well earned break down at the coast this week, well believe me it wasnt worth it :( .Tuesday night i had a phone call from the guy who was keeping a eye on the fish for me saying that i had some dead fish in the tank and that he couldnt see any water movement.A manic 2 and 1/2 hour drive in the morning and we was home but too late, the powerhead on my jewel internal filter had packed up and due to the high temperatures the oxygen levels must have fallen to almost zero.My 3 biggest balas;siamese tigerfish;needle fish;3 pim pictus;leaf fish and synodontis soloni were all dead,a combined value of nearly £200 worth of fish, all the other fish were all looking very sorry for themselves too, then to cap it all off my computer was infected with that blasterworm that is doing the rounds, all in all a completely cr@p end to a extreemly shortened holiday,i wont ever be leaving the tanks unattended overnight again.

On the bright side the water quality was still good so the mrs took me out to have a look around the fish shops this afternoon (as well as picking up some anti virus software) and i bought myself a 6" australian arowana for a reasonable price which cheered me up no end, also she has agreed to let me set up another 40 gallon tank so that i can grow on some new pictus cats and sharks to be added to the main tank to replace the dead ones,so it seems even big fat rain clouds can have silver linings after all.

ah CFC,
Sorry to hear about your fish and your computer. That's no way to have a vacation! :(

On the other hand, congrats on the new arrowana and 40 gallon tank. Hope you can enjoy what's left of your vacation.

Hi CFC,

Really sorry to hear about your problems. Doesn't sound like fun at all.

I was away on holiday a couple of weeks back - when I went it was normal weather so I deliberately made sure all the windows were closed and locked. About three days before I was due back I heard about the heat wave and boy was I worried.

Got home on the Tuesday evening and the tanks were all at about 35C!!! A careful check revealed that all seemed to be OK apart from one dead guppy. That was one of my originals which I have had for almost a year and it was from a 'dubious' pet shop so it may just have been at the end of it's life anyway.

All of my tanks have an air wall or large air stone so that the water is well agitated to keep the oxygen levels up which may have helped.

It's a damn shame about the leaf fish especially as you had got him well trained.

Eddie

Sorry to hear about your difficult vacation return. It is hard to vacation and hope that things are ok at home. I vacation at home now. Congrats on the new tank, and hope the rest of your vacation is much better. Sandy

Ouch that sux. Any chance of some pics of the new aro??? Is he a jardini? I love those guys.

I really want a dat but they are illegal here. Donno why, but that is terrible you lost him, as well as the others.

I was truely gutted about the dat (siamese tiger) and will be looking for another one as soon as funds allow, they are not a cheap fish.
The arowana is a jardini,im just hoping that it dosent go all homicidal on me,it was being kept in a tank with some angel fish,Hujeta pike characins, fire eels and elphant nose fish and apperantly hadnt molested any of those in the two weeks theyd been in together.
Ill stick a pic in the members pics section.

aaaaww cfc,
sorry that happened to you & your fishes, so much for a holiday being a stress reliever :X
