Try some guppies and maybe some neon tetra, in my 10 gallon I have 10 neon tetra male and female guppy and 1 female betta,
i may have been lucky with my female betta not attacking other fish but mine are fine.

Neons need a 30 gallon..
Betta would be an awesome fish to have in a 10 gallon though, I wanted to put mine my spare 15 gallon, but sadly I've got to treat him for dropsy now.
Guppys and other live bearers are hard water fish and neons are soft water fish. 8 DGH isnt super hard but neons prefer it under 6.
Plus neons need more length than a ten provide as they are a shoaling fish and need at least 2 feet to swim back and forth.
Lots of nano species do well in 10 gal, a single betta, a pair of sparkling gourami might be ok. A group of African dwarf frogs with no fish do well in a 10. They need to be in groups i had 6 in a 10 gallon.
