I am starting to get super duper confused about whether platies are suitable in a 10 gallon tank.
I have a sunset, and a red wag platy in my tank, and they seem extremely happy. Fed well, but not too much, my water is always clean, all my tests show that the water is perfect.
I have searched all day through all the forums, and there is lots saying that 15gallons + is better, then there are some posts of people saying that 10 gallons is fine, so Im getting frustrated with what is the truth! Also upsetting if they aren't, coz they are my favourite fish and I really am quite attached to my platys :(

I know you have been asked this question a million times, but
Are platy's suitable for a 10 gallon tank?

So here's my take but I'll say this upfront I'm not an expert on platys I used to have them and I did breed them so I know a bit.
Personally I've kept platys in a 10 gallon but it was just two of them in it a male and a female that I was specifically trying to get a per breeding from that being said I also had a very good filter on there and lots of live plants.
I wouldn't recommend more then two in a 10 gallon tank and I'd do 50%-70 water changes each week.

Thanks RRaquariums :) My mollies have a new home to go to, so soon I will just have the two platys and the betta in my tank, and wont be adding anymore platys :)

No problem but I never had any bettas in with mine so I can't say how they get along.

Bigger is always better no matter what the fish!
If you have a male and a female platy, whether you plan it or not,  you will be adding more platies about (30-50) every 4-5 weeks once they get to breeding age (about 6 months old). Unless both of yours are males there's every chance that any females could already be pregnant even if you have no males in there now. If you are lucky the fry may get eaten otherwise you'll definitely have a platy population explosion! Female platies only need to mate once to produce fry every month or so for about 6 months.
Fingers crossed you've got 2 males!

I personally think two platies are ok in a 10 gal. If you had, per say, 6 platies in there, they would get restless. A 25% water change per week is fine, as long as your water is in the correct parameters. (Cycled and such)

This is really confusing for some responders as there are now 3 threads relating to this question and there's a different bit of the picture in each one. In one of the other threads the OP states that there's a male and a female platy.
I'd agree that 2 males might be ok in a 10 gallon on their own, but I was trying to make the point that with both a male and a female platy in there it won't remain at just the 2 of them for long and then a 10 gallon is definitely too small.

Yes, sorry for the confusion. One of the other threads I didn't actually ask a question, but people did still comment on my stocking, and my other thread was when I wasn't feeling as confused about platys not being suitable for my tank :)
