10 gallon betta tank

we just moved our boy into a ten gallon tank. we want to plant it, and it already has 2 peat plates with sand for the bottom. i want my betta to be happy, but he wont build bubble nests with the filters running. should i bother with filtration or just do water changes?

you can get a corner filter that doesnt disturb the water,that always works.
