can i feed dwarf puffers malaysian snails?

there over populating in my pond  they must be done with.

i know there hard but if i get the tiny little baby snails would they be good?

yes or no

IMO, yes, but others will say no, the shells are too hard. I think the real question is how well kept the puffers are. If they get a good water conditioning treatment and have strong teeth like they should, the shells shouldn't be a problem.

I'm sure if you crush the shells it'll be fine. I do that with ramshorn snails, even, and I find that they get more to eat out of them, while still grinding their teeth on the pieces of shell.

Yes, if they can crack the shells, if not you can just squash the snail between your fingers and they'll just eat them up.

i'd like to see someone smash MTS shells with their fingers. those things are structured to be tough.

i doubt that you can find any MTS both small enough to feed to your DP and large enough to smush. plus, with DP being as small as they are, their teeth simply won't be up to the MTS shell without significant risk of damage. i say don't risk it and cut down on your pond feedings. MTS are cannibalistic--if there's nothing better to eat, they'll kill each other.

that doesnt sound like my snails then...i crush them up sometimes to give my goldies a TREAT.

the biggest one ive seen was 1-2 cm

and i break them in my fingers by the dozen!

 what kind of snails do i have?

they have a cone shell structure and the snail inside is grey and the shell is kinda having a swirl? :dunno:

Could be some kind of pond snail. The color of the body isn't too useful as color morphs are quite common, even in the wild. The shell shape is the best way to identify them.

I'm relatively sure that they arent caniblistic, and you can crush them in your fingers, just takes about 150 lbs or so, I cant do it anymore, because I messed up my right hand. However, have you considered selling them by the hundred on ebay or some other online auction house.

If you offer the Dwarf puffers only the largest snails, the puffers will not attempt to crush the shells and will suck the flesh out of the shell instead.

alright.

well i think im still gonna feed him some snails occasionly even if he only wants to suck them out.

if he wants to suck or bite, thats his choice and not mine to make :kana:
