1-gallon tank /w filter fish recommendation

It’s been many years since I bought an aquarium, and decades since freshwater fish. I’m really broke now, and picked up this cheap, 1-gallon tank with filter from Walmart.

Stocking recommendations would be greatly appreciated! It would be from the local PetSmart after I let it cycle for a day or so. Thanks.

1 gallon tanks won't really allow you to have fish, although there are some colorful small shrimp like neocaridina that would most likely do good in there if you planted the tank with small plants.

As a side note, it takes more time an effort than just a day to.cycle a tank. It can take weeks.
For me it took about 3-4 weeks before I put fish in mine.

I'm afraid that isn't a tank, but rather a holding container too small for any fish to humanely be kept in. I'm sure that's a disappointment and that I'm a bearer of bad news there, but those 'tanks' are a rip off.

Yep, I must concur. It might make a nice shrimp or other invert tank, but not for fish.

Thanks! 3-4 weeks for a 1 gallon? I remember waiting that long with larger reef tanks; it felt like forever

You'll also have to keep on top of your parameters with such a small tank as there's no wiggle room. Any way you could return it and get something bigger? There's various opinions but something 5 gallon or bigger and you can start looking at some fish although options are limited (I only keep nano tanks myself and that's my smallest size).

Look for second-hand as well. FB marketplace may have some good deals even if it's small tanks.

Buy 10 large ramshorn snails and go into business.
