i bought a one gal tank and i don't know what to do with it i was going to put fry in it but people said they would get stressed and die, and as well can't buy a heater for that small of a tank so now what do i do?? and i don't want to put a betta in there

When it comes to fish, I think a betta is the only choice for a one gallon tank. But I don't know about other creatures besides fish, how much room do they need.

theres always an adf or two............ since you dont' want a betta.

fry would be okay in it for a time, but then they might now have enough room as they get bigger, depending on how many you have.

you could just keep it empty and use it as a hospital/quarantine tank

My 1 gal currently houses 12 rescued guppys. It is a temporary arrengement, but it's taken time, as I'm building my 5 gal.
My guppys, small in the beggining, have grown, and are avid eaters. They don't behave abnormaly either. So even though I'm bent on improving their quality of life ASAP, I guess 3 or 4 small guppys would do just fine in a 1 gal (I plan on leaving mine as a breeder/palnt growing tank after I finish the 5 gal).

I will post a pic of my 1 gal on the aquarium pictures section. It's not pretty, but it's holding on OK.

:)

A one gallon tank is only suitable as a photograph tank, that is a tank that newly aquired fish are placed in prior to being added to the tank so they can be photographed. It has no place as a tank for the long term keeping of fish, even bettas deserve more room than that.

i don't know but i've heard of people puttin ghost shrimp in there. Not sure if it's a good idea though.

I've alwys heard platys can live in a bowl without a filter or anything. My fishbowl that isn't in use was made for goldfish. Can some goldfish live in 1-gallon bowls?

I had a phonecall from a friend the other day asking about triops, and would a 1 gallon tank be all right for them. I was a little confused (triops are those brine-shrimp type things). Especially when she said "No, not triops, triop, I have one triop".

"Are you asking me if a single triop would be OK in a 1 gallon tank?" I asked. I was thinking the woman was mad - I mean, I was looking at my Sea Monkeys thinking it's about the same size, maybe a little bigger, and I couldn't understand why she had a problem.

"It's 3 inches long," she said, "and shows no signs of getting any smaller."

I haven't seen this beastie, but I don't think its a triop. Maybe something else got into the eggs and hatched out. She did say her giant "triop" got fat by eating all the other triops.

Anyway, the point of this little tangent is that maybe you could consider an invertebrate of some kind?

A goldfish requires 5-10 gallons of water each and heavy duty filtration. In good conditions they can live 20 years so when people say a bowl's fine for them, and then tell me the goldfish lived 5 years, you can see why I don't agree it was "fine".
