I just finished a fishless cycle a few days ago that took me about 4 weeks. I followed the procedure in the pinned topic here in this section and it all went 'swimmingly' !

Once my Ammonia & Nitrite readings had dropped to 0 and my Nitrate was 10ppm I added 6 Zebra Danios.

All looked good for the first day, although I did notice while five were swimming mainly together, one seemed to be going it alone a bit more. Not all the time though, it would then join the others and the 6 would stick together.

Then maybe 48hrs after the fish were put in the tank, I happened to have a look at them and one was flapping about a bit, and then just floating with the current from the powerhead, then flapping a bit more. This only lasted maybe a minute and he just then wedged against an ornament and died.

The other five are fine, or so it seems. I can see no obvious signs of any problems. I appear to have 4 males?? (Slim) and 2 (now 1) females - much rounder bellied. The one that died was quite plump and was rather red at the rear behind its lower fin if that means anything? Last I checked about 1am this morning on my way to work the other 5 were all looking good and happy.

Any ideas? I have had a bit of a read on illnesses and can't find anything to match. Maybe this was just an ill one to start with? Could have been the lone swimmer at the beginning.

Oh, I checked the water levels straight away when this happened and all was fine. I did a partial water change anyway and hoovered up some excess food I found in the gravel.

Yea, he could have just been stressed or something, a neon did that to me once. I wouldn't worry about it unless others start to show symptoms.

That's what I am hoping. The other five are still looking fine, very active chasing each other around the tank like nutters !!

These things happen!

IMH, you've done everything you could to prepare for your fishes new home.

The one that died was quite plump and was rather red at the rear behind its lower fin if that means anything?
Sounds like the syptoms of Sceptacema / Dropsy (the two go hand in hand). Forum / Google search to see if you agree... If so, may want to add meds to stop it spreading to other fish. I don't wish to cause you panic, but better you investigate this NOW, BEFORE it does spread....

If you do add fish in the future, quarantine them first - this may have been a good lesson.
