1,500 watt heater?!

Is there such thing as a 1,500 watt heater for a fish tank?

Well my dad, whom i dont really trust about fish matters, refuse to let me use the heater which i'm pretty convince isn't 1,500 watt. It's from Plenn Plax and when i put it to full power (adjustable) in a 5 gallon tank, the temperature was around 95 or so.

just as an indication... we use a 300W in our 50 gal...

They generally say 5 watts per gallon.
Soooo... that heater would be for a 300 gallon tank.

Well I did a little research. All I found on a 1500 watt heater is something that is used to de-ice a pond.
