hob thin tank

I currently have a marineland 5 gallon portrait I have to restart. Tank Link I am considering tearing out the back panel to allow more tank room. But that back panel is for hidden filtration. The plastic back is quite thin. Would a hob be able to balance on it? Anyone with experience with this...
