group size

Hi all,   Hopefully I'll be buying my first fish today. I'd ideally like a couple of platies as it seems they're a great beginner fish and they're nice and active. My question is this... am I ok to buy a pair of them? Or do they really need to be in a group of 3 or more?   Also, I don't really...
