Thanks! In fact I wasn't going to get involved and I only created an account so that I could see the pictures in the posts and do searches (what's up with that btw?). I like to scan for new ideas as I am back to the hobby after very long break. On a side note I am shocked that so little has...

It would be just as bad to wear gloves when playing with a cat as it is not to wear one when working in a fish tank. If you completely isolate yourself from the microbial exposure you will weaken your immune system. Some people do it without knowing by using anti-bacterial soap that contains...

There are exceptions to every rule. Garras are supposed to feed on your skin. I am quite surprised at the level of hostility that the simple idea of gloves has caused. It would prevent fish bites would it not? This may justify a thread of its own actually.

Please note that I want to protect both worlds - I don't want to contaminate tank with many dangerous substances we use in our daily life and I don't want to catch anything or become the 3rd documented case of Fish TB. Gloves are a no-brainer IMHO.

You may not be aware of sick fish right away. There are usually fish/snail excrements in the tank as well. These are...

In the context of this thread it would offer you protection from fish bites to begin with. Aquarium is an active biological system and it is better to prevent direct contact with many micro-organisms it may contain. It works also to protect the tank from any unwanted contamination as skin is not...

The glove is specifically designed to be used in aquarium and I give it a wash before going into tank so gloves are safe for the tank. You can get non-disposable gloves for working in pond which may be cheaper in long run. These are also safe for the tank. It is not safe for humans to work in...

You should try using gloves next time. I use the disposable gloves that you can buy on ebay or amazon with good results. It's not really safe to work in the tank without gloves anyway...
