I transfered my molly fry (around 15) in to my 5gallon a couple of days ago and noticed yesterday the tank was decidedly dirty. so i've done a water change this morning and vacuumed the gravel and yet it's still dirty. so if i clean it again later today will it do any harm? is there any way...

it sounds like you have ICH in your tank (if 10266you go to http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=10266 for more information) and it can be treated. it could be cos you do seem overstocked or it could be the water quality. but i'm no expert. someone else will be able to help you more.

though i keep mainly mollies and i've had only about 4 fry eaten and that was by the male! Of the last 4 batches of molly fry i've had they've all survived in my main tank as i wasn't here to net them when they gave birth.

not necessarily! if your cycling you could haev got past the ammonia spike but still be going through a nitrite or nitrate spike. someone else can explain more than i can

i made similar mistake. i lost 2 fish within a day but i still have my molly from then. we've had him since june and it's almost jan. considering he's moved house, survived a bout of dropsy he's good. anyway, what i'm saying is i've had fish survive a cycle.

i had same problem. i randomly had a fish die who was healthy and then noticed dropsy in anothe rof my fish who died within 4 days despite treatment. i'm still trating my tank though my fish look ok now. sorry i'm no help

coming from your plants you say? I had same. so took plant out to discover it was roots growing from the sprouts on the plants.

ok so ive had fry in their own little tank now for around 2-3 months. some are 1 month, some are about 2 months. and they seem to sort of got stuck, size wise. probably around an inch long but look really small compared to the parents. is this about right?

bear in mind on sunday no symptoms, monday symptoms. iv'e just read it can be cured. i guess just wait and see. might have caught it early enough as i treated on monday when i found it.

problem being my lfs did say it could be cured with this stuff. i did say he looked like a pine cone and that i thought it wasn't treatable and was told that it was and they gave me this stuff.

i used melafix when my molly had a touch of fin rot. saying that i've heard it's bad to use that on bettas and you should try bettafix by the same company that make melafix.

personally i found that by limiting the amount of time i had the light on worked. i had pretty bad algae on my plants and everywhere. i had the light on for 12 hours a day so i cut it down so it was only on between like 6 - 10 then 4-10 and now 2-10 and NO ALGAE!
