    Ricca Fluitans

I was looking thru one of the plant stores suggested on the forum and came across this carpeting plant. It looks very nice, but I was particularly interested in one of the benefits... "Additionally, riccia is a great nutrient/waste sump that can help remove harmful amonia, nitrates and nitrites...

    distance between lights and water

Hi, Just wanted to give my 2 cents, even though you seemeds to have finished your set-up. I have a large 75gl tank, with a dual bulb, 48" shop light fixture hanging from the ceiling overtop of it. Total distance from the very bottom is about 34"-36", over 50% more then that 22" max. I have...

    Sand

Well… I'll see if I still have that half a bag of sand and try that. Nobody has answered about differnet types of sand though. I.E. CaribSea has all kinds of sands with different fertilizers, stabilizers, etc. and I wanted to know if anyone used anything in particular. They have an african...

    Sand

Well I bought a bag of playground sand from Home Depot before to set-up and Hermit Crab habitat for a friend of mine. Since I had the sand I took a bunch of it and tried washing it out. I wrapped up a big in a piece of cloth and tried rinsing out the more finer parts. I did that over and over...

    Sand

Plants?? YES!! They had quite a bunch of stuff, lots of red plants to contrast the more common green plants as well. If your planning on going, make sure you have a large open tank with room to spare, and lots of money :) :) You're gonna want alot of stuff

    Sand

I visited my not so lfs store this weekend, Aquarium Center in Randallstown, MD. I HIGHLY recommend that you visit if your anywhere within and hours dirve. It's like a fish superstore there, LONG isles and isles of any fish you could think of. I counted 7 different kinds of plecos, royals...

    Rams

Mine are pretty hardy little guys. I had them in a 10 gl tank with 5 gold tetras and a tiny red flame gourami. I had a whole bunch of cabomba in half of it. I was keeping them there temporarily till I got my big 75 gl. ready for them. It currently had 16 tiger barbs that would have surely...

    A Pleco Pic

My pleco if very very shy and always leaves a cloud of mess from whereever he was sitting when he sees me walk by. I had to crawl up to the tank to take this one :)

    80 gallon

Nice Camera ;) but… what about the settings? Shutter speed, ISO, etc. I've tried a few different things, but still haven't gotten pictures quite to my liking. I can't use the flash unless I sit at a heavy angle to the glass, but then the shutter speeds have to be higher and everything comes...

    They have arrived !!!!

I've wanted to order fish online, but the I look at fish that are about $6-$10, then look at shipping and it costs $25+. I just can't see the balance in order em, unless I'm order a ridiculous amount of fish, or something really expensive.

    Balloon Ram

tear-scar, Do they have pinkish bellies?? It could just be that they're both Females. The females are much duller, especially the black stripes. The males have much darker blacks and more vibrant colors. Another insteresting thing, if you have two males in a smaller tank, they'll get ALOT...

    Balloon Ram

Bolivian Rams are close, but merely 'cousins' of blue rams. For specific's look up their scientific names. They're of the same genus (Microgeophagus), but two different specific species. The German Blue's are of the Ramirezi species, whereas the Bolivians are of the Altispinosus. German Blue...

    Balloon Ram

Sure I can... it's not a big difference though. The Balloon rams are actually just a hybrid of the German Blue Rams (which are from venezuala, so I don't get the whole "german" part). They just have shorter, rounder bodies then usual... "dumpy". I guess they add more of a 'cute' aspect to the...

    Balloon Ram

After my introduction someone asked me to post a picture of my "Balloon Ram". I posted it in the New World Chichlid section, and I got two nominations for FOTM (something I knew nothing about till now). So here's a picture of my Balloon Ram. I say rare because the little guy is extremely shy...

    Soft Water

Actually... that's exactly what I was looking for. I figured w/ that I should add peat, but didn't know much about it and haven't been able to find anything... thanks for the link.

    Soft Water

Yeah, it seems pretty much perfect for me. I'd much rather spend the $30 on one little thing that connects directly to my faucet rather then the $250 for the other big bulky thing that I have to by seperate connectors to use on the faucet... and disconnect and reconnect everytime I do my...

    Soft Water

I recently have bought some Rams, one balloon ram and two regulars. I know they're pretty sensitive to water conditions, and require soft water with lower pH levels. I have them in a 10 galloon tank for the time being which is easy to control. I soften the water with a softener pillow from...

Nah I didn't say the golds were a hyrid, just pointing out that the balloons are hybrids of blue rams... so maybe they can make em from golds. Ya never know I guess.

Just a quick pic... newbie here

I don't think gold rams are 'balloon rams'. They're a hybrid of Blue Rams though, so I'm sure there could be some 'Gold Balloon Rams' out there somewhere. As for the missing boy, yep... know how it is. For the whole week I just constanly thought about that, and it wasn't that small. Probably...

Wait… you didn't get the dead one out before? Either way, that's sad. I had these 3 dwarf gourami's in my big 75gl. tank, and 2 had died w/ about a week in between each other. Another week went by and we left to VA Beach for the weekend. When I came back I couldn't find the third one. I...

Well wrs, you actually just have to look more closely at the pic. The one in the front center is the Balloon Ram, while the two in the upper corner are regular Blue Rams. His "puffiness" is pretty distinguisable from them. Yeah I love the little guy. The store I buy all my fish from had a...

    Hi

Well... as someone requested, here's a picture of my Balloon Ram. He's a pretty cute little fish. I just bought 2 more normal rams and put them in the 10 Gallon w/ him, along w/ the 2 little dwarf gourami's and 5 gold tetras. Surprisingly, they all get along really well with each other in the...

    Unknown Gourami

Well, not that anyone has seen this or is wondering about it.... I've discovered what they are. They're in fact red flame/fire gouramis. They just have a lighter color, and more blue then most of the pictures I can find. I guess they're body just haven't quite matured into their full shape...

    Hi

He did have a basking spot. There was one floating flat thing he could sit one. It was a plastic rock with a ramped side, and it was secured to two poles that stuck to the side and would stay in position, but float w/ the water level. Pretty nice thing I got from my local pet store. I also...

    Hi

Thanks for all the friendly welcomes :) I would love to get a picture of the Ram, but it's near imposible. I hardly get to see him period. He's extremely shy and almost immediatly hides at the site of me. I've tried taking pictures of the two new gourami's in the same tank to see if anyone...

    gourami?

I have 5 large blue gouramis and 3 dwarf gouramis in the same tank as about 16 tiger barbs and haven't had any problems. As long as you have a bunch of em, I'd say 6+, they won't bother the other fish. HOWEVER, I am trying to get rid of the barbs. I can't put any fish in the tank that are...

    Unknown Gourami

Hello, Well the purpose of registering here today was to ask about two new gourami's I recently purchased. They're pinkish red, with a bright aqua/blue spot along the top of the bodies, started at the tip of their dorsel fin, and going all the way down to their tail. The fin is the same blue...

    Hi

Hello, I'm finally deciding to register with a fish forum, and came across this one first. I have a 75 gl. tank, very lush with live plants, and quite a few fish. There's 5 blue gourami's, about 4.5" long, 3 dwarf gourami's that are about 1.5", 16 tiger barbs (some of them green), and one Lg...
