    Ghost Shrimp And Bettas

Well, the shrimp will certainly feed on the uneaten food. As for whether the Betta will be aggressive towards them? No one can say. Each Betta is different. Personally, I keep my CT with a bunch of them and I've not had any issues in the last couple of months. On the other hand, I've heard of...

How To Take Good Betta Pictures

Strangely, I've never been able to get a reaction out of my Betta using a mirror.

    Do Any Other Fish Compare?

After watching my CT for about two and a half months now, I feel as if it's the only actual "pet" in the tank from amongst ten other fish. I can appreciate its distinct personality as well as its interesting and amusing behaviour. Even the way he moves sets him apart from the rest. Of course...

    New Betta Incoming

Well, unfortunately, this fish won't be joining my community tank. Today, two weeks after the auction's close, I was informed by the seller that there is a "new trans-shipper for Canada." After emailing said intermediary I was told that the "new fee" would be $45 dollars (2.5 times the...

Hmm. I'm not sure. The seller listed his colouration as "green fire" or "green dragon fire" or some such though, lol...

    New Betta Incoming

The page didn't specify, but the listing was under 'Halfmoons' and by the looks of it, yeah, I think it's an OHM. Glad everyone else likes it as well!

    New Betta Incoming

Had my first foray into using aquabid.com about a week ago. This guy caught my eye. Was a little expensive (three times what my current CT cost from the LFS), but I couldn't resist the colouring on it. Opinions? It should be arriving from Thailand shortly, and luckily, the trans-shipper...

What Plants Do Your Bettas Like?

Mine absolutely loves Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis). It's a bushy plant with plenty of leaves that provides good concealment. http://www.aquapage.cz/Obrazky/Rostliny/Hygrophila_difformis.jpg Oftentimes I'll find him wedged in at odd angles having a rest.

Llj's Ada Tank "refugees From Endor"

Lovely tank. I was curious as to the brand/model of your light fixture...?

    Am I At Full Capacity?

They've been together for a few days now without any incident at all. They investigated one another a time or two initially but have since promptly ignored each other. The Betta seems very casual overall, I guess, as he's not bothered the shrimp either. Even the small ones.

    Am I At Full Capacity?

It's a 12 gallon tank currently stocked with 1 Crowntail Betta (about 1.5 inches, minus tail), 5 x Neon Tetras (about 1 inch each), 1 High Fin Platy (about 1.5 inches) and 9-12 Glass Shrimp. The confusing part for me is how the Glass Shrimp factor in. Thanks in advance for any input!

Anyone Have Success With A Betta In A Fluval Edge?

Just a quick update. I went against caution (and perhaps better judgement) in light of the vehement assurance of a couple of seemingly knowledgeable salesmen that kept their own Bettas in Edges at homes. Ended up taking this guy home - The pictures/lighting don't really do justice to his...

Minimum School Size For Neon Tetras

I'm planning to get five. Would this be enough for them to feel comfortable and exhibit normal behavior? Elsewhere I've read that the minimum is three, four, five, six or even seven. Input would be appreciated. Oh, the tank is a 12 gallon. Thanks!

    Betta Compatibility With Clown Killifish?

I was curious whether or not these might work together in a tank? Or is the Clown's style of fin a bit too prominent? Thanks!

Anyone Have Success With A Betta In A Fluval Edge?

^ The Edge 12 gallon has been a nightmare. Truly. Quite an expensive mistake, I must say. Going with white sand was the second critical error, I think, too. Just filthy. Maneuvering a siphon in the tank filled with stuff was absurdly difficult. I went ahead and did a total do-over (there goes...

Anyone Have Success With A Betta In A Fluval Edge?

Thanks for the input. I had already decided against putting a Betta in the tank, though, as it didn't seem worthwhile having an unhappy fish. The light coverage leaves a bit to be desired, but the filter seems alright, I think. Would a Korthausae Killifish have enough room inside, do you...

    Zebra Danio Swimming Oddly?

Good to know, I suppose. Thanks. The fish has given up swimming altogether right now and has settled on the sand next to a bit of wood. I suppose I'll be using my fishing net come morning.

    Zebra Danio Swimming Oddly?

The fish's belly has since become quite swollen. Reading elsewhere suggests possible constipation or being overladen with eggs. Does this typically affect swimming? It's really struggling to move from what I see now.

    Zebra Danio Swimming Oddly?

I added a few Danios earlier today. They were swimming and schooling quite well from what I saw initially. Checking in on them a few hours later, I noticed one behaving a bit strangely. It seems to be moving with difficulty - holding its head slightly higher than its tail, the tail moving...

White Cobweb-Like "mold/fungus" Growing On Wood?

I'm in the process of getting a new tank started and today is the third day that it's been filled with water. A little earlier I noticed some sort of whitish, almost sheer, mold-like stuff growing in various places on the piece of wood I have inside the aquarium. A rather poor picture of said...

Yeah, I had the same idea. Betta, female Platys, male Platy, then Neons.

Adding A Small School (5) All At Once?

Oh. I wasn't aware of that. I thought it best, still, to gradually introduce fish regardless. Thanks for letting me know. The tank's a Fluval Edge 12 gallon which comes with, I believe, a re-branded Aquaclear 20.

Adding A Small School (5) All At Once?

I'm still a ways off from adding fish to my new tank, however, I was curious as to how adding schools was done. I plan to have something like 1 Betta, 3 Platys and 5-7 Neon Tetras in the end. When it comes to the Tetras, as I understand it, they're best kept together. Is there much leeway on...

Anyone Have Success With A Betta In A Fluval Edge?

Yes, I know it has an opening. I have one (Fluval Edge). My concern is that such a small surface area might be a bit of a problem for the fish if it's unable to quickly learn where to "come up for air."

Anyone Have Success With A Betta In A Fluval Edge?

I had been planning on getting Crowntail Betta as a first fish in my new aquarium. The possible snag, however, may be the relatively small opening at the top of this particular tank. As I understand it, the fish requires unobstructed access to the surface (inhibited by the tank design, in this...

    Dechlorinator Directly Into New Tank?

Thanks for the response. Currently, I'm toying with the idea of a 1 Betta (although I've read conflicting information on whether or not they'd do well in a Fluval Edge tank, as the aperture is fairly small at the top), 3 Red Platies and 5 Neon Tetras. Thanks. I've spent quite a number of hours...

    Dechlorinator Directly Into New Tank?

Hey all, I've recently purchased a 12 gallon aquarium after deciding to take up fish as a hobby. Thus far I've got all the "necessary gear" and today I finally put in the sand, plants and ornaments, before filling up the whole tank. Initially I had planned to dechlorinate the water before...
