    Orange Chromide Disease

Hi all, Been quite a since I last been on this forum. Posting here because I can't seem to find answer anywhere else (other forums). *HEAD UP, THIS MIGHT BE A LENGTHY READ* Before you guys get into the main report of this post, here's the parameters of my tank: Tank size - 46 gallon bowfront...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Did't think of that haha. I thought they just take the worms like my other fish fry do. They seem to feeding on the powdered food though. I'll continue with the microworms and the powdered pellets, and see how things go.

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Well looks like my fry have become bored of feeding on microworms. Tried feeding them today and they completely ignored them (getting picky). They seem more interested in nipping at my plants and the surface of my substrate. Decided to make powdered fry food by finely grinding Northfin Krill...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Here are some quick shots, as I was feeding the fry and their parents this morning. Apologize for the horrid quality, the sunlight coming from the arched/halfmoon window lit up my entire fishroom (absolutely glaring). included some pics I took yesterday evening as well, which seems like a better...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Fed and checked on the rams just a moment ago, and some of the fry are beginning to starting to wonder around the tank (hiding in and nipping at my cabomba.carolinia and Myriophyllum.scabratum). The parents seem to have a hard time trying to keep their school of fry together. Once a group of fry...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Will do, and sorry to hear about your loss. Losing a fish hits me hard every time too, especially if they're a pair (end up feeling so guilty).   It's a good thing that the store I mentioned will order any fish I request as long as they have a supplier and I order a decent amount :)

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Keep 3-4 pairs (future breeding project with rams I plan to get from the US and Germany), sell some to a few members of a local forum I'm also apart of (actually got a waiting list put together), and provide the rest to a local cichlid specialized store that I often shop at (might trade for...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Fed and checked on the parents and their fry this morning, and things are going very well. The fry are all feeding (starting to see their bellies turn white from the microworms, and poop trails behind them haha), and becoming more independent (went from a cloud that followed the parents, to...

    Rare Bettas?

If you can link us the article we might be able to clarify what exactly that article is referring to in regards to "rare bettas". I know in older articles, as more patterns and colour mutations were being bred, some were considered "rarer" in the market/fish trade at the time. Nowadays, when...

    What Fish Is This?

Glad to be of help :) Kept these little guys in the past. It was always interesting to watch them court eachother.

    What Fish Is This?

Based on the size and colouration, I'm going to stick with scarlet badis (Dario.dario) for now. Search up the species on Google, and let me know if it is a scarlet badis.

    What Fish Is This?

Look like scarlet badis (Dario.Dario) to me. How big are the fish? If possible could we get a direct flank shot and face/frontal shot as well?

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Just got home and checked up on the pair and their fry, and saw all the fry are free swimming :D I'm going try to get a drip line going to top off the tank (opposite of the side of the tank). If I start to see any stress signs from the parents or fry I'll stop immediately. Some are already...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

There's a otocinclus in the tank with them, been there since the start (post cycle). They don't seem to mind it, as it stays on my sponge filter grazing 90% of the time. Wonder if all the fry started free swimming yet, can't wait to check on them later this evening   I'm supposed to do a water...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Yes, but only about 7 of them as of 8:00am. I'll check up on them again later this evening. Nice to see both parents working together (passing fry between eachother) to corral the fry back to the nest when they start wandering around. Will keep everyone posted

    Cool Giant Fish

Not in a 75 gallon. Maybe in a 120 gallon, but you'll need to have them divided (until they want to breed), or have a lot of hiding places for your female. Flowerhorns don't make good tankmates, even with other flowerhorns, due to their aggression.

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Another morning update: The fry are starting to jump/wiggle around a lot more, and the parents have relocated them to a larger/wider pit they dug. The pit also happens to be directly under my java fern, which is now uprooted. Guess the roots will help serve as shelter and security.   Will update...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Checked up on the pair and their fry earlier this morning (8:30am), while I was feeding them, and things are progressing quite well. The wigglers are becoming more active, startling to roll and bounce a little. 3 more days until they start free swimming, or so I hope. As always, I keep everyone...

    Cool Giant Fish

Plants don't hurt, but most people keep FHs in bare bottom setups or very minimalistic scapes (just gravel or sand). Helps keep the water and tank as clean as possible. No tankmates, best kept as a solo show piece.

Hey, it good that she got out of that relationship right? Absolutely gorgeous fish by the way. The tank is quite beautiful too, loving those swords

    Crayfish

Your water parameters could have been the culprit. Should make sure your parameters are in check and meet those suggested for the species you have. Other than that, make sure you're tank is well oxygenated, meet their dietary needs, and regular water changes.   What kind of crayfish did you...

    Best Driftwood For My Tank?

I started by scrubbing the driftwood to free any wood dust and pieces of debris, and then boiled it for 2-3 hours. After it cooled down I submerged it in water treated with Seachem Prime dechorinator/conditioner for a day. Rinsed it the following morning and added it to my tank. Initially it...

    Best Driftwood For My Tank?

I like Malaysian, since it's heavy and sinks fast. It also doesn't leech out as much tannins compared to mopani. Another type I like to use is Manzanita. Great type of wood for creating scapes.

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Yeah I know I can get some nice ones in the US. I already have a pair I just thought it would be cool to get some from YOU since you bred them.     I see. If I had the means and permits to ship them I most definitely would.   This is my first time successfully breeding them, so I'm really...

    Cool Giant Fish

Good to know, glad to know we cleared that up.   Yes, the nuchal hump (kok) is primarily made up of fatty tissue and water. The size of a flowerhorn's kok is very dependent on health, but more so genetics. Make sure your flowerhorn has pristine water conditions and a high protein diet. There's...

    Cool Giant Fish

Have you kept a flowerhorn before? You'd be surprised, as flowerhorns can be/are one of the most aggressive cichlids.   You shouldn't be getting predatory fish just because you want a vicious fish or for the purpose of feeding them mice for your own enjoyment (especially live). Aside from...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Not sure about how many there are, don't want to disturb the pair and their fry. I only check on the rams during feeding. I'll try counting them again once they put on some noticeable size. When I initially saw their nest 2 days ago, there was about 180-200 eggs.   As for shipping them (once...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

I see. I'll make sure to keep that in mind. I feed all my fish twice a day, once in the morning before I leave and again when I get home in the afternoon/evening.   I currently have some java moss growing in their tank, as well as some Cabomba.caroliniana and Myriophyllum.scabratum. Once the...

    Stressed Betta

Most likely the stress of being moved. When you say water from an established tank, do you mean from her own tank or another? How did you acclimate her new tank?

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

That was my reaction when I first looked into the tank haha. Hope the mom doesn't eat the fry once they become free swimming.   "The snack that smiles back!" Don't know why that's the first thing that popped into my head, when I thought about the mom eating her own babies lol...

My Blue Ram (Mikrogeophagus.ramirezi) Breeding Log

Went to feed the pair this morning and noticed all the eggs were gone...     What I saw instead was the male guarding a clusters of wigglers in the pit he dug at the back of their tank Not exactly sure how many there were, but my initial count of their nest was about 180-200. Will continue to...

    Cool Giant Fish

With either species you'll eventually have to to upgrade to a 120 gallon or larger. Unless you plan to just keep 1 piranha, but red bellies do better in shoals. Like GMC1 and NInjouzata suggested, a flowerhorn is another great option.     Depends on your species of piranha. Red bellies and...

    Cool Giant Fish

If you want a monster tank, I'd go for the 75 gal. It's large enough to have options, but a 120 long or 220 is what I'd personally go after. With a 75 you can keep some solo monsters like: ruby red spilo piranha, gold mac piranhas, black rhom (buy at juvie size), red wolf fish, gold wolf fish...
