i just read that you dont nessasarily have to have live rock, just get some cheap fish and some tufa, and start the hobby off that way :D this is what im gonna do. i have good filtration and lighting, so im gonna go for it, only thing is i dont know where to start, adding salt ( how much ) etc...

ok, well unless there is any signs of attack, ie nipped fin etc then i wouldnt think so, but if you have another tank, then dont hesitate, move him straight away just in case, if not, then take him back to the shop and explain your thoughts.

sounds to me like you have added new world cichlids to your african setup, new world being "convict cichlids" which can be very very agressive, especially if you have 3, there is a 50/50 if not more possibility you have a beeding pair, if you have they will kill off the 3rd one "which is whats...

ok my story in a nutshell, a month ago 100+++++ babies, 5 africans was in the tank aswell, didnt get them out cos the parents were very good at looking after their fry! the next morn, 50+, the next 25+ then 0 :( they had all been eaten. so i puckered up and found more eggs last week, this time...

hmm platies! im sure that PH is too high for platies, u cant really mix fish that require different parameters. If your gonna want platies/mollies etc then i would lower the PH first :S and compatabilty wise, anything that doesnt nip :) unless u have a huge tank, and even then, chances are...
