It sounds like a water filter not an RO unit.

It should be, I would question why you need RO before you can drink the water though, its quite expensive

The tubes do not have an outer coating, they are glass. It sounds like your water is settling on the tube then evaporating and leaving a residue.

Are you saying that you completely change your filter media every 2 months?

Use the setting on the heater as a guide only, make sure you have a separate thermostat that is accurate. A quick test is to take your stat out of the tank for a few minutes, even run it under some cold water. It should respond quickly, then put it back and take a reading after 10 minutes.

If you water isnt getting cold enough then your heater is faulty, or your room is too warm, or your lighting too powerful. The thermostat on the heater should turn the heater off when the surrounding water reaches the set temperature, if your water is getting too warm then this isnt happening so...

I thought it was too dark when I bought it but once the sand is in the tank it looks a lot lighter than in the bag.

Which is heavy would you say same amount of sand and gravel? If you mean the same volume then sand is by far the heavier.

B&Q play sand is easy to wash and doesnt cloud the tank, just done my new one in it.
