My betta does exactly the same things, likes to hide behind the heater and occasionally rests on the tank bottom which i was told is also normal behaviour.

I like your practice set up, will look good in the new tank, am looking forward to upgrading my fluval edge!

Thanks kitty cat for the advice, it certainly seems i will have to rehome the sailfin which is a shame as hes lovely but I wont be getting a tank bigger than 190 litres in the forseeable future!

Many thanks for the replys, all helpful. Am really excited about getting my new tank especially as i've convinced hubby to get a 190 litre corner aquarium! Do you think the sailfin will be ok in that for a while? Hadn't considered leaving the betta in the fluval edge, would he be happy in there...

Thanks for the advice, 200 l would be the largest i could have which is about 52 us gallons, i really would hate to rehome him as have got pretty fond of him but equally dont want to do any of the fish harm. If we decide on the smaller tank then will follow your advice.

Oh dear! Was afraid this was the case :sad: my poor fish. I always leave a half inch at top of tank for the betta to breath. Right, best order a new tank and start again. Was looking at the fluval roma 90 litres, would this be big enough for present stock and more tetras?

Thanks for the advice, will look into getting the pellets. Tweezers sounds like a solution. Had noticed that they like to hide away so wondered if i put the bloodworms in where they hide, that way they are sure to find them and the fish cant. All four look pretty plump so must be getting what...
