I have the same concerns.  So far it seems that the peacocks stay near the bottom of the tank, and the angles are more mid to upper tank.  I can always move the tetras...I'm not sure if I should be concerned that the peacocks are bullying the angles...or the other way around.

Thank you.  Like everything on line there are so many variations.  I put them in a 75 gal tank with two angel fish (and a few tetra).  Not a planned combo, (or a great one) but so far everyone seems to be getting along. 

I just bought two fish marked orange blotch marmalade peacock.  When I googled the name, I came up with a bunch of variations.  I'm looking for any specific info on them.  I found this pic on line (not my fish but looks just like it).  Any help appreciated.  

I really like both the rainbow fish and the Serverum.  My tank is a 75 gal.  It has a small school of tetras and two bolivian rams.  I don't think I've ever seen either of these fish in pet stores (which are lacking in my area).  Where do you usually find them?

Ok, this is a definite possibility.  There are currently only a school of small tetras and 2 bolivian rams in the 75 gal tank.  I need some java fern!

I find these fish fascinating, but I have no experience with them.  I've read everything from "they are a great beginner fish" to "they usually don't survive the trip home from the pet store."   I'd like as much info as possible before I consider them for my 75 gal, under-stocked  community tank.

Thank you for the suggestion. Mollies, platys and swordtails don't really appeal to me...I'm not sure why, I've just never been fond of them.  Also, I think they are too small.

Well, my angle fish did not survive (actually I still have one)...neither did the blue rams.  My water is way too hard.  So, my choices are either buy a reverse osmosis filter, or find fish that can live in my water.  In this particular tank I still have 2 bolivian rams, the one angle, and 8...

OK, thanks!  The angle I mentioned is definitely dying...at least I got to witness it's behavior.  It was swimming rapidly in "circles"..turning on it's side, lunging at the top of the water.  It almost looked like seizure activity.  Any thoughts?

Honestly, I've always had pretty hardy fish...I've always filled it straight from the tap, I stand there with my hand at the outlet to make sure it doesn't get to warm or cool.  The bucket method is much more accurate....and I'd like to say I'd try it but I know that I'll never have the time to...

My water temp is about 79-80 which I know is pretty warm, but I think that the angles can tolerate it...I have it that warm because of the blue rams (one left that's going strong).   I have not tried a large water change.  Sounds like a good idea.  My concern with doing changes that large, is...

The metal was not treated with anything.  I see your point about boiling the wood, but I got that advice from multiple sites (including this one) about preparing driftwood for use in aquariums.  It seems to be holding up pretty well.  My PH is 7.4. Wills- I changed everything in the tank...

I agree that part of the brightness problem could be caused by the fact that there are currently no plants (I have driftwood, but it's still soaking).  There are some rocks, but they are white.  Still, if it's that bright at 40 watts...and I have to double it?  I had the sand for several years...

OK, me again.  I've been surfing the internet like crazy and I'm becomming more and more confused about lighting.  Right now I have a 40 watt aquarium bulb.  I'm assuming it's the one that came with the tank.  The light seems incredibly bright (too bright).  I can't imagine at 1 to 1.5 watts/gal...

I ended up getting two bolivian rams because that was what was available, but still wishing for those German blue rams...seem a bit high maintenance though.

No, the fins are not very long but definitely longer than the females. I disagree with removing him from a completely peaceful environment after a year and a half. I spoke to a reputable pet store owner who states he's had several seups with one male to several females without problems.

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like ph may be the problem but I don't think there is much I can do since I don't know what the ph was before I changed it. Its the same tap water I always use. I dont think the bacteria is the the problem. My ammonia and nitrate are zero. Still watching and waiting.

Are you thinking PH because of the volume of water I changed? I've moved tanks before without this problem. Not sure what went wrong. Ammonia is zero, so is nitrite. I only ran the filter under water,. I don't think I could have killed that much bacteria. I'm guessing the water temperature was...
