Two Peacocks In A Frontosa Tank?

I had to move the surviving 2 fish in my 70 gal tank after my heater died.  The water was quite cold and killed everything in my tank except two peacocks which must be extremely tough.  The only other tank that I had to put them in is my 120 gallon frontosa tank.  For the past 3 years it has...

    Orange Blotch Marmalade Peacock?

I have the same concerns.  So far it seems that the peacocks stay near the bottom of the tank, and the angles are more mid to upper tank.  I can always move the tetras...I'm not sure if I should be concerned that the peacocks are bullying the angles...or the other way around.

    Orange Blotch Marmalade Peacock?

Thank you.  Like everything on line there are so many variations.  I put them in a 75 gal tank with two angel fish (and a few tetra).  Not a planned combo, (or a great one) but so far everyone seems to be getting along.

    Orange Blotch Marmalade Peacock?

I just bought two fish marked orange blotch marmalade peacock.  When I googled the name, I came up with a bunch of variations.  I'm looking for any specific info on them.  I found this pic on line (not my fish but looks just like it).  Any help appreciated.

Medium Size, Colorful Fish For Community Tank?

I really like both the rainbow fish and the Serverum.  My tank is a 75 gal.  It has a small school of tetras and two bolivian rams.  I don't think I've ever seen either of these fish in pet stores (which are lacking in my area).  Where do you usually find them?

    Glass Ghost Catfish?

Ok, this is a definite possibility.  There are currently only a school of small tetras and 2 bolivian rams in the 75 gal tank.  I need some java fern!

    Glass Ghost Catfish?

I find these fish fascinating, but I have no experience with them.  I've read everything from "they are a great beginner fish" to "they usually don't survive the trip home from the pet store."   I'd like as much info as possible before I consider them for my 75 gal, under-stocked  community tank.

Medium Size, Colorful Fish For Community Tank?

Thank you for the suggestion. Mollies, platys and swordtails don't really appeal to me...I'm not sure why, I've just never been fond of them.  Also, I think they are too small.

Medium Size, Colorful Fish For Community Tank?

Well, my angle fish did not survive (actually I still have one)...neither did the blue rams.  My water is way too hard.  So, my choices are either buy a reverse osmosis filter, or find fish that can live in my water.  In this particular tank I still have 2 bolivian rams, the one angle, and 8...

Fish Selection Not Working Out...(Or I Poisoned The Water)

OK, thanks!  The angle I mentioned is definitely dying...at least I got to witness it's behavior.  It was swimming rapidly in "circles"..turning on it's side, lunging at the top of the water.  It almost looked like seizure activity.  Any thoughts?

Fish Selection Not Working Out...(Or I Poisoned The Water)

Honestly, I've always had pretty hardy fish...I've always filled it straight from the tap, I stand there with my hand at the outlet to make sure it doesn't get to warm or cool.  The bucket method is much more accurate....and I'd like to say I'd try it but I know that I'll never have the time to...

Fish Selection Not Working Out...(Or I Poisoned The Water)

My water temp is about 79-80 which I know is pretty warm, but I think that the angles can tolerate it...I have it that warm because of the blue rams (one left that's going strong).   I have not tried a large water change.  Sounds like a good idea.  My concern with doing changes that large, is...

Fish Selection Not Working Out...(Or I Poisoned The Water)

The metal was not treated with anything.  I see your point about boiling the wood, but I got that advice from multiple sites (including this one) about preparing driftwood for use in aquariums.  It seems to be holding up pretty well.  My PH is 7.4. Wills- I changed everything in the tank...

Fish Selection Not Working Out...(Or I Poisoned The Water)

I'll have to check the PH again when I get home. Can't remember. It's a 75 gal tank and the angles are approx 1.5". I have not sprayed anything near the tank and my heaters working fine. My biggest concern is the metal I mentioned.

Fish Selection Not Working Out...(Or I Poisoned The Water)

My fish are dropping like crazy...I redid my old mbuana tank several weeks ago and bought 6 angles, 2 bolivian rams, 4 blue rams (very young ones) and 8 tetra.  So far I've lost 3 angles and 3 blue rams.  My amonia and nitrite levels are 0.  Very little nitrate (not sure of the # as I don't have...

    Need Help With Lighting

Funny, I even googled the correct spelling.  Darn auto correct.  By the way, I'm assuming the tank in the pic is yours.  It's absolutely beautiful.  How can you have a tank like that and not know the difference between a T5 and a T8 bulb?  LOL.  I thought that knowing "all there is to know"...

    Need Help With Lighting

I don't have pics because it's not much to look at yet.  I used to have mbuna ciclids in the tank and I had it decorated with lava rocks and kind of a dark background...not to mention the black/white sand.  There were no plants because they eat them.  To me, the tank was so dreary looking. ...

    Need Help With Lighting

Lisa, thanks for all of your help, it's really appreciated.  No, I didn't use play sand.  I used some very expensive black and white sand that was "made" spicifically for ciclids...it's been a while now so I don't remember if it was supposed to increase the Ph, or something else.  Anyway, it was...

    Need Help With Lighting

I agree that part of the brightness problem could be caused by the fact that there are currently no plants (I have driftwood, but it's still soaking).  There are some rocks, but they are white.  Still, if it's that bright at 40 watts...and I have to double it?  I had the sand for several years...

    Need Help With Lighting

OK, me again.  I've been surfing the internet like crazy and I'm becomming more and more confused about lighting.  Right now I have a 40 watt aquarium bulb.  I'm assuming it's the one that came with the tank.  The light seems incredibly bright (too bright).  I can't imagine at 1 to 1.5 watts/gal...

    Need Help With Lighting

I want to create a low-tech planted tank.  I am confused about which lights to order.  My tank is 4 foot long and 22" deep (sorry, my husband doesn't do centimeters and meters...lol).  Could you please recommend a bulb.  Do I need a T5 or T8?  How many watts?   Thank you for your help.  This is...

Just Finished Redoing 75 Gal Tank

Just Finished Redoing 75 Gal Tank

I ended up getting two bolivian rams because that was what was available, but still wishing for those German blue rams...seem a bit high maintenance though.

    Easiest Plants?

Hello!  I have an established tank that I'd like to add plants to.  Although I am an avid gardener, I did not have luck with aquarium plants when I tried it several years ago.  I just redid my tank...it now homes angelfish, tetras and 2 bolivian rams.  As much as I'd love to really love to go...

One Male Betta In A Tank Full Of Females...

No, the fins are not very long but definitely longer than the females. I disagree with removing him from a completely peaceful environment after a year and a half. I spoke to a reputable pet store owner who states he's had several seups with one male to several females without problems.

One Male Betta In A Tank Full Of Females...

I have it in another post...try this link http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/380121-is-this-really-a-female-pics/   It was members of this discussion board that said he's a male...what do you think?

One Male Betta In A Tank Full Of Females...

I just came across this post that I put up well over a year ago...back then I had said I would never try it, but without knowing it, I actually had put one male in with 6 females (I had no knowledge of betta at the time, and the store had him marked as female, which he obviously is not).  They...

Just Finished Redoing 75 Gal Tank

Just so happy to finally have new fish in my tank!  After a few years I was bored with my mbunas and decided to go with something different.  After the mbuna were rehomed, I got rid of the sand, the dark lava rocks, etc.  I now have 6 angelfish (black, white and marbled), 8 serpae tetra (which...

New Tank, New Filter? Or Can I Use The Old One?

I have a 72 gal tank that has been housing mbuna cichlids for several years. For whatever reason they became ill (their bellies became concave), and slowly they have started dieing off. Now, I'd like to try something new (either angle or discus fish) in that tank. My question...I'm not really...

    Serious Storm Related Problem

I guess I will have to prepare for the worst... As I said, we will be leaving. My daughter will be managing the dogs, cat and fish. Serious Storm Related Problem

Living with the endless power outage from hurricaine Sandy and thankful to have Internet back! I have 3 tanks ranging from 15 gal to 125 gal. Betta Acting Weird After Water Change

As I posted yesterday, I nearly killed by entire 125 gal tank of fish because I was careless with the water temp when refilling. Fortunately, all but one fish recovered. I never realized how life threatening a small temp change can be. If he's still OK now, he may recover. OMG...just saw...

Adding A Few Calvus To My Frontosa Tank

I have a 125 gal tank which currenly houses seven frontosa and two calvus. Two of the fronts are about 2 years old, and the other 5 are one year. I would like to add more calvus, but am worried about them being eaten. If they are a decent size, the fronts wont bother them. Anyone know a good...

I May Have Just Killed My Entire Tank!

Thanks for your reply. It sounds like ph may be the problem but I don't think there is much I can do since I don't know what the ph was before I changed it. Its the same tap water I always use. I dont think the bacteria is the the problem. My ammonia and nitrate are zero. Still watching and waiting.

I May Have Just Killed My Entire Tank!

Are you thinking PH because of the volume of water I changed? I've moved tanks before without this problem. Not sure what went wrong. Ammonia is zero, so is nitrite. I only ran the filter under water,. I don't think I could have killed that much bacteria. I'm guessing the water temperature was...
