    Dandruff IN my tank???

Actually, when I started the tank I inherited a very large, 4.5 inches long, Bluefin Damselfish. He has never been happier. In fact, I don't plan to add any more fish. He's very entertaining. He has been happy since day 3 when I added him. In fact, he's actually looking much better in my tank...

    Dandruff IN my tank???

It has been running for 3 weeks. It was stocked with 40 lbs. of live sand, and at least 25 lbs of live rock (at least 10 lbs were previously aged in a tank and have gorgeous corralline algae all over it). I am using a fluval 204, and 2 maxi powerjets for extra water agitation. So, I could be...

    Dandruff IN my tank???

I poured through books and information on the web and believe you are correct. I think it's Daphnia (Marine Water Flea's). If so, they eat algae and are very good for the tank, as you indicated. My polyp's and damsel can certainly eat them :) I have a new problem this morning though, my...

    Dandruff IN my tank???

Someone please help out a newbie salt water fanatic. I was staring at my 45G salt water tank and noticed what appeared to be "dandruff" on the inside glass of my tank. I looked very closely and these very tiny things were MOVING! What are they? They look like dandruff flakes. They are now...

    Is my Oscar dying??

Do parasites cause that kind of damage that quickly? Wow. I just can't believe he went from looking like a happy little guy to deathly ill in a matter of a few days. I will NEVER feed my fish feeders from the LFS again. Can I raise them instead? What are the best types of feeders? I've got...

    Is my Oscar dying??

To answer your questions though... Yes, I bought the feeders from the LFS. In fact, I am guessing that this is the cause of death as my Volitan Lion from the 55 gallon died just 2 days ago (after starting him on feeder fish). Now that I think of it, he had some similar symptoms, like the...

    Is my Oscar dying??

Sadly, my dear Oscar died sometime last night. I am very sad. He's was such a good buddy, always playful and loved to watch people. I won't get another Oscar. Originally, my husband bought him knowing the tank was too small, but was going to give him a bigger tank as he got older. He wasn't very...

    Is my Oscar dying??

Hi there! I need some help. I have an Oscar I am very fond of and he isn't acting/looking like himself. He is a Tiger Oscar. - His color is usually dark, but he looks "pale" now. - His mouth hangs open, with his lower lip jutted out (like he's on a fish hook) - He appears to have labored...

I just bought a Bik Shark?

Oh my gosh, you are right! It's an Iridescent Shark Catfish. Oh, that really burns my cookies. I told the lfs what I wanted and asked about the types of conditions the shark needs. They didn't speak much english, but I assumed that I could find anything I needed online. I will return him today...

I just bought a Bik Shark?

I know... normally, I don't just buy a fish without looking into it. It's definitely not a black shark. It's currently about 5 inches long. He is dark grey on top with a very white belly. He looks like a shark. :) He has a wide, round mouth. He also has 2 black eyes, and 2 sets of nostrils it...

I just bought a Bik Shark?

I am unable to find any information on the web regarding bik sharks. I just bought a shark from my lfs and brought him home. He has his own tank, which I am sure is too small. But I can't find anything about his preferred temperature, water softness, ph, etc. How often should he eat? Also, he...

    Help!

Were the other gourami's male? If so, he could have been picked on. Even if you had 2 males and a female they will fight for donor rights. :) I recommend getting a female. They are just as beautiful.

    old vet needs new tricks

The more often you change the water right now (especially at 75%), the more time it's going to take to cycle your tank properly. I suggest waiting and hoping this fish lives. If he doesn't, don't put anymore fish in that tank till it has completely cycled (I know, it's hard NOT to buy fish)...

Molly Fish Swollen Eyes Laying Down

The young fry actually benefit greatly from 82F temp. It helps them grow quickly along with 4 feedings a day. They have voracious appetites :) I didn't intend to breed when I started. Now that's what I do. I read everything I could on Mollies when my first one gave birth. Fascinating species.

    didn't cycle tank

To raise your buffering capacity, get some aragonite from the LFS (also known as crushed coral) and mix it with your substrate. It's usually white, so if your gravel isn't white, you will have yet another color in there :) Works great though.

Molly Fish Swollen Eyes Laying Down

If you have mollies exclusively, I highly recommend you add some salt to your tank. Also, you can bump up the temperature to 82F. Mollies thrive in those conditions and reduces fish diseases. I noticed a big difference when I started breeding mollies.

yellow cloudy water, help quick plz!

Oh, and make sure you check that your heater didn't burst apart in the tank :/ I have actually done that before... a large water change, oops forgot to unplug the heater, then "pop, zzztttt". It was definitely a quick lesson for me! How are the fish in the tank? Are they acting normal?

    Fish water smells.....why?

RO water is "Reverse Osmosis" water. You can get it from your local grocer. I get Randall's Brand Drinking Water. Usually, you will pay about $.35 per gallon. Usually, the drinking stations set up along grocery stores have RO water. It tends to be very soft too compared to my local water, so...

    Need help with disease

Go get some Amqul+ and quick! It immediately lowers the nitrites, nitrates and ammonia in the tank. And it's perfectly safe for the fish and tank. I will take a look at my disease book and see if I can tell, but the red sounds like septicemia... Either way, I would do the treatments that...

    FOGGY WATER

Based on everything I've read here, I strongly advise against putting your fish in there. Definitely don't use scalding hot water. You are killing the bacteria you need to process fish waste. Every time you do that, you make the tank cycling backtrack a few steps. Pay now or pay later. If you...

    Hey

Peas, yes, believe it or not. Just remove the shell from the pea first. It's best to use a varied diet. I personally feed my fish one type of entree per day. The next day, larvae, the next brine shrimp, then flakes... you know. Just keep them interested.

    one of my female

A simple way to feed them is to put some flakes in a coffee grinder (or use a mortar and pestle) and grind them on espresso blend. :) To feed, dip a toothpick into the food and dip it into the tank.

    What do you love most?

That's right, I have to admit, one of my favorite parts of having mollies... the fact that they are so gentle and will take food from my hand. They are very social for fish :)

    little oscar problemo

Don't use the crapper. At least give him a quick and painless death with frozen vodka. Cheap kinds work great. I always have a bottle in the freezer in case I have to pull out the grim reaper. :( I love fishies, but I don't like seeing them suffer. Good luck!!

    Fish water smells.....why?

Check the HOOD! Look up under the hood and see if the area covering the lights is covered with gunky gooey greeenish stuff. If so, go outside and hose off the hood. I found my 20 gallon tank stinking badly and finally realized it was the hood. After I sprayed off the hood, the tank didn't have...

    FOGGY WATER

The bacteria is trying to grow (hence the cloudiness). You can use some anti-cloudy products from your LFS, but it will eventually go away on it's own. I would personally stop treating the tank and just change out 5% of the water every other day till it isn't cloudy and the tank is stabilized...

    sailfin molly

Do his scales look slightly puffed, like a porcupine? If it's dropsy, you can add a "Tank Buddies" product to the hospital tank and hope you catch it in time. Just read the back of the boxes. It says which one is for dropsy. Do you have any salt in the hostpital tank? Mollies can be brackish, so...

How is he behaving otherwise? Does he eat? Does he move at all? If he doesn't eat or move, I would make sure he isn't dead :( I have had fish that go to the shelter of plants and died there. I assume they do that to keep them from floating to the top against their will. If he is alive and...

Only if you haven't been adding it to water that you add to the tank (or the original water). water changes

What I mean by prepping the water is making sure that: 1. The replacement water is the same temperature as the tank you are adding it to. 2. The ph in the replacement water needs to match the tank ph. If you have always used tap water without adding ph up or down, then you are probably safe...
